  1. Is anyone applying to any of the following SLP schools for spring '13: Old Dominion U, UCF, St. Rose, or UT Dallas? Just wanted to stay in touch with other applicants. If there's another forum for SLP spring 2013 apps that you know of, please point me there So, I need some opinions on my chances of getting in. From reading through these forums - it looks a little bleak for me haha. But just thought I'd ask. My stats are not that great and, unfortunately, this is my third time applying after 2 years of waitlists/rejections. My undergrad degree is from Boston U in journalism (archaeology minor) and I had a 3.3 GPA. My GREs are: 156V, 153Q, 4.5AW. I've taken 7 post-bacc prereqs (As and Bs) and am now enrolled in USU's 2nd Bachelor's degree where I plan to get straight As (lol - it seems like you have to to get in anywhere!). But, thankfully, I'm really enjoying the USU program. It would just be nice if I could get in with the prereqs I've already spent a ton of time and money on. I'm retaking almost all of them in the 2nd bachelor's (bc they only transfer in one class). By the end of this semester, I'll have taken 10 classes in SLP (predicted grades: 7 As, 3Bs) and have done some shadowing at private practices. I've worked with autistic kids too. The schools I previously applied to (and got rejected from) are: Emerson (twice), MGH, Teachers, and USF. I realize a lot of those schools have tough admissions stats - I didn't really know all that when I applied originally. But it seems now most schools are super hard to get into for this field. So, what do you think my chances are? Anyone? Also, in anticipation of being rejected for spring '13, I'm also applying to fall 13. I already have one app done (Nova), and will start the others later this fall once I confirm I did get rejected. Thanks everyone! ~Steph
  2. Hi Pangea! Congrats on your acceptances elsewhere!!! Unfortunately for me, USF was my top choice and one of only 2 schools I applied to (the other being Emerson, which I assume I'm waitlisted at because I haven't heard anything). This is my 2nd year applying - the first year I aimed a little too high probably haha and got rejected from Columbia and MGH and waitlisted at Emerson. This year, I did more research and decided USF seemed like a much better place for me - I'm from Florida and it would save me tons of $$...not to mention, I liked the program and have taken 2 USF prereqs. Yea, I remember watching that admissions video and thinking the same thing - basically, we have no chance if we're not in the first cut. But I wonder if the first cut is really over. Today I wrote Vivian basically asking if I'm waitlisted, and she said that while they have sent out "some acceptances" they are still not done reviewing. That gave me a little glimmer of hope. But I feel like that's what they tell waitlisted people hahhaa. My waitlisted experience at Emerson left me a little bitter last year since I didn't end up finding out I was officially waitlisted until VERY LATE - like June/July pretty much. I mean - I understand if I'm waitlisted, but I would like to know when I'm actually on the list rather than being told a "decision isn't ready" etc. I thought I had a good chance at USF this year since I improved my GRE scores and took more prereqs and had more observation hours...but I guess I didn't realize how competitive the field is right now. My GPA's kinda low (3.3 something from Boston University in journalism) but I got all As and Bs throughout college and in my prereqs, some of which I'm still taking. But, I don't have field experience other than observation. And my GREs are average/slightly above avg. So, maybe it won't happen...dunno. If not, I plan to try for UCF in the spring, among other spring schools. Thanks for the feedback! Where will you end up going if USF isn't the one?
  3. Did anyone else not hear from U of South Florida yet? Getting nervous over here... thanks!
  4. Thanks for replying! Yea, ugh waiting!!! Haha - crossing my fingers for this week or next...but I guess I shouldn't hold my breath.
  5. Ohhh that's good! Thanks so much! I was freaking out a little over here lol. Yea, until now, I had also never gotten an email saying my app was complete, though I got one saying it was referred to the dept a long time ago. That's good to know. Phew...
  6. Did anyone who applied to University of South Florida just get an email saying thanks for applying - "the review process is expected to take 30-60 days"? I'm pretty sure that's code for waitlisted so I wanted to see if anyone else got it too??? I'm freaking out a little - that was my top choice. Thanks!
  7. Hi! I applied to USF also and haven't received an email or anything from them, but I already have a UID since I'm currently in a prereq class online with them. I know their site says they start sending out acceptance emails in early March, but I also saw last year at this time people started finding out. Ahhhh....I hope it's soon...

  9. Hi! I am also still waiting on Emerson! ahhh!!! Such a long wait! I wrote them last week and they said they send out letters throughout March...but I don't have a good feeling either... TC people - first, a professor (Saxman) in the program told me March 15 was when the dept. was going to try to let students know by. But then admissions told me Monday that it could be till April 1st! (noo lol) I've noticed other TC people in different majors have been notified via email directing them to the website. So, I've been checking the admitted student section to see if my login will get me in. So far, it hasn't... Isn't waiting fun? Good luck to everyone! And congrats to all those accepted to where they want to go! Steph
  10. I haven't heard anything either from Emerson But hopefully soon? Good luck and congrats to everyone!!
  11. Hi! I wrote Emerson admissions a little while back - they told me we'd be notified sometime in March...which is kinda vague. But the other day, I logged onto Ecommon and they had a new tab "Admissions decision" or something like that under application status. Of course, when I went back on later that tab was gone...so hopefully that's a sign they were in the process of editing the site or something and will have it up soon! I can't wait - Emerson is my first choice Anyone waiting for TC: I contacted admissions and they said they try to notify by/around March 15. Good luck everyone!
  12. Hi!! Well, I know Emerson said somewhere on their website 6-8 weeks after the deadline of Jan. 15, but also that some people would hear sooner. TC and MGH I'm not sure. I'm hoping soon! I already feel like the wait has been soo long. Good luck to you too!
  13. Ooh maybe that is a good sign! They're at least reading the apps! Yea, I'm crossing fingers here. It seems like a very long wait haha. Good luck!!!
  14. Hi! I've applied to Emerson, MGH, and Teachers College @ Columbia...eagerly awaiting response, though I know they won't come for at least another few months. Anyone out there applicants to the program at these schools? Best of luck to everyone!
