  1. Just to weigh in on this... 3 of the 5 people in my first-year cohort already had an MA. Obviously, having an MA means more will be expected of your work and less financial support will likely be offered. Other than that, my understanding it makes no difference unless you lack the coursework in the discipline for which you want to pursue the PhD.
  2. this question is irrelevant for most of you, but i thought someone might know the answer... are phd students who have completed a year in their program ineligible to apply? especially those who do not have a master's to begin with? the information on the website seems somewhat contradictory. it says students need to have completed less than full year, but the application only becomes available in august, meaning that anyone currenty enrolled who missed the fall deadline will already have accrued one year's worth of credits. also, assuming on is in fact ineligible after completing the first year, then what happens if one changes programs and starts over as a "first year" in a new program, does that change eligibility status? just trying to figure out how this all works. cheers.
  3. I wouldn't worry about it. Focus more on the quality of research being done by the faculty in your field. You should be able to judge that without resorting to rankings. (In fact, your ability to judge is probably impeded by paying attention the rankings, particularly those as radically vague and out-of-date as the NRC's.)
  4. Just received the following email (bcc'd, so I assume it was mass): "Congratulations! You have been selected as a finalist for The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s paid summer internship program. Graduate students are not required to interview; we have sent your application to a department, and they will contact you should there be any questions." Best of luck to everyone!
  5. Who knows... no response yet to my inquiry about finalist notifications. It's sort of strange to think that they wouldn't have the courtesy to notify those who are definitively out of the running as soon as possible so that other plans can be made, etc. I suppose since no one has actually reported hearing anything concrete, one possibility is that they haven't yet finished (or begun?) notifying finalists. At any rate, here's hoping for some glimmer of communication in the next few days.
  6. I just sent an email asking to clarify if they had already contacted all finalists... not that I'm expecting any good news at this point. Le sigh!
  7. Posed too soon? So, does that mean they are done contacting people...? No call here. :/
  8. From the website: "Finalists will be contacted and invited for an interview during the month of March." Obviously that could contradict the language of the email a bit. Hopefully decisions are not far off. I'd love to be able to move forward with other plans if this doesn't pan out
  9. Agreed. As for me, I'm a first-year grad student. I focus mainly on 20th-century American and European art and so, not surprisingly, I'm hoping to work in the Modern dept. Best of luck to everyone.
  10. Congrats recycledviking! I am a semifinalist as well, different field from yours, though... I'm assuming we'll hear about interviews any day now. anonymousbequest- since I am gathering you are on the inside, do you have a sense of how many people they interview out of the 1500? Cheers.
  11. Anyone applying to the Met's summer internships hear back? They are supposed to notify semifinalists today. If we haven't heard anything yet, does that mean bad news?
