Congrats on your acceptance! I'm doing an internship in New York for the Summer and I'll be looking to stay at NYU. However I'm not sure which hall to stay in, I'm looking for my own room (a single). Its a toss up between Coral and Alumni but not sure which is better. Does anyone have any advice? As Im from Europe I wont know anyone there so whichever has the best sort of social scene is a plus as well. Anyone from NYU want to share their wisdom?
  2. Thanks for the Advice/Support it was really helpful. I completed my BA in May 2011, with a joint major in Economics and Geography. Although I majored in Economics my maths isn't quite as good as you would think lol, I'm quite good at math if its taught and explained to me, but I run into difficulty when I have to teach myself cause I can get frustrated very easily. I'm from an English speaking country (Ireland) so in terms of understanding etc its fine. However in relation to english in an academic setting I thought I was quite good because I have had to write a LOT of essays and reports in the past, but when I was studying the verbal section for the GRE I found the vocabulary quite challenging. My GPA is quite low (due to family issues that occurred over the last two years) so I want to do quite well in the GRE to balance it out. I'm doing a masters at the moment in Braodcast Production (quite a change I know) but I'm hoping to do a similar program in hopefully Boston University or Syracuse. I emailed them and they said that the average for accepted students is about 580 in each section. I double checked the deadlines and its February 1st. Im not looking to get a scholarship (for now anyway) what are the usual deadlines for most programs? In a state of panic I ended up ordering like 7/8 different books haha wish I'd known better, oh well. Another issue I have is that standardised tests like the GRE or SAT's aren't widely used over here so I'm trying to get used to the answering techniques i.e how to approach certain types of questions. If you have any tips on that, that would be great! Thanks for your help again
  3. The deadline for the programs Im applying for are in and around February 1st
  4. I'm planning on taking the GRE in about three weeks but Im panicking a bit. I'm a foreign student (foreign to the US) and haven't had to take an exam thats in the same format as the GRE before. I'm currently doing a masters and work when I'm not studying so I've found it hard to find the time to study. Can anyone give me any tips or advice on how to study for the exam or what to expect? I'm getting quite desperate at this point lol.
  5. I was just wondering does anyone have any information on Boston University, Syracuse, and Emerson? I'm looking to apply to a masters program in television/radio production for fall 2012 and from doing a bit of research I found that these three Universities have such programs. If anyone could give me a bit of general information on these Universities (info that perhaps their admissions office wouldn't provide e.g how difficult/competitive is it to get in, are the programs worthwhile, student life etc) I would hugely appreciate it. I'm from europe so I don't know too much about these U.S universities or their programs so any info would be great thanks.
  6. Thanks for the Advice. Do you know what are the best books, practice test etc to buy? There seem to be a good few different publishers and I'm not sure which are most productive and which are just a waste of money.
  7. I'm planning on taking the GRE sometime towards the end of November, however I have one big problem, I don't know much about it lol. I'm an Irish student looking to apply to graduate programs in America, however the GRE isn't a widely taken test over here so its quite hard to get information and tips about it from people. If anyone could give me any advice from which books to get/online resources, to a plan/structure on how to study for it I would greatly appreciate it. I'm looking to apply to television production type courses in Boston University, Syracuse and possibly a few other so any relevant info would be such a big help thanks.
  8. Hey I know this is an old post but I only came across it today. I'm currently in the same boat, and I'm just wondering what programs you ended up applying to, and if you found out anymore information about any others. thanks.
  9. Is the New School considered a good school to go to? I'm from Ireland so I don't really know what the general consensus is in relation to the different american colleges. I'm looking to do the Ma in media if anyone has any insight to it? Thomaslues I heard that there was a very arty/douchebag vibe there aswel, don't know if I could handle all that lol but if it was a good school I'd definitely consider it.
  10. Anyone know if the New School of General Studies in NYC has a good reputation, in terms of quality of education, and how prospective employers view it? I'm thinking of doing a masters in media studies there but don't want to waste money and time if its no good. Any insight would be great
  11. I'm an Irish University student in my final year currently doing a joint major in Economics and Geography. However I'm looking to make the move into communications, specifically television production (odd switch I know) once my Undergrad is completed. My college of choice is Boston University and their television production masters. However I have a huge issue in that their required GPA is 3.0 and I only have a ridiculously low GPA of 2.6. I'm just wondering if anyone knows how strict this GPA requirement is and whether or not I have any shot in being accepted. I plan on taking a year to complete certain production courses to get a foundation of certain skills and techniques as well as creating a reel of different work, and then applying for Fall 2012. If anyone could give me any info on Boston University, how heavily they rely on GPA, or even any other similar courses it would help me more than you know. From the American students in my college who I've talked to they all seem to think that their U.S universities grade way more easily although I doubt admissions would have this mind set.
