  1. Don't know too much about this, but I believe usually Operations Management is affiliated with business schools, so a PhD in Operations Management gives you a slightly greater advantage (all other things equal) if you are applying for a business school position in academia.
  2. What research experience do you have? I believe this will be crucial. This is a very solid profile in terms of academics (and I don't think you really need more, although would strongly recommend a few stats courses e.g. time series, stochastic processes if you plan to do asset pricing; although econometrics from LSE should be already very good), but you haven't mentioned much about research. If you have good research experience + excellent LORs then yeah, applying to these top schools is reasonable. Where will you be doing the masters? Will you be able to do much research there?
  3. Sleeping... I find it more effective than checking thegradcafe forum/email/etc every 10-15 min
  4. This thread seems to be less active than last year's one... Here are my stats: Undergraduate: Toronto Major: Math & Stats Courses: A lot of Stats (incl. some grad courses), quite a bit of math (incl real analysis, PDEs), econometrics, a few electives GPA: 3.99 GRE: Q800 V700 A5 Recommendation letter: 3 profs, all supervised research Research: two summers, one during term... got some nice interesting results. No papers though, 2 in progress... Is that bad? Industry experience: a bit, pretty relevant, will have total of about a year by September Awards: IMO, Putnam (hm last yr) Applying to: MIT OR Columbia OR Cornell OR Harvard Stats
  5. I will be buying donuts for my department at work then later celebrating with family and then also celebrating with friends.
