  1. I'm so glad to find other people with the same thoughts as me. I also am in a new PhD program right now, but I am now thinking that my interests really might be in a different department (i.e. Religion instead of Classics). How awful would it be to switch to an MA instead and then reapply to PhD programs in Religion? Just fyi, I received a two-year fellowship here and TA funding for the remainder.
  2. Just letting everyone know I declined my offer at Bryn Mawr (and the fellowship) so hopefully someone will get good news soon!
  3. Thanks, Veilside. I think I agree with you, and another forum thread gave similar advice. It would just be nice to get a head start on some coursework...
  4. Is it ever possible to transfer out of a PhD program (that has offered you a fellowship) after a year or two if it turns out you don't like the program? Will it damage your career?
  5. Whoa congrats on getting that scholarship! I read that they only give out 15 of these each year! What an honor.
  6. Oh my goodness me too! Congrats, Veilside!
  7. So good to know someone else is sharing my misery. haha... It should be soon, Veilside. I wrote to the DGS also and she replied saying I would know by yesterday. Well I haven't heard from them but I'm hoping it'll be soon...
  8. Has anyone hear heard anything from Columbia's Classical Studies PhD program yet?
  9. Ah, that's good to know. Thanks! I am certainly hoping that I won't have to wait until the last minute to make a decision. Good to know that there should be movement well before April 15th. This whole application process feels like a huge waiting game. It's my first round applying to PhD programs. Never imagined it would be this nerve-racking!
  10. Oh, don't worry Veilside, I haven't accepted any schools yet. I just want to clarify how this all works. But thanks for being so considerate. =) Actually, let me see if I can phrase my question better. Say I am waiting for funding from School #1, but I then accept School #10 close to April 15th. Then I hear on April 16th that someone from School #1 has declined an offer and funding is now available for me. How could I possibly accept that since it is after deadlines? If everyone waited till April 15th to make their final decisions, then the offers that were declined would be useless at that point. Am I understanding this correctly?
  11. Thanks for sharing that. If that is the case, then how do schools make offers after the April 14th deadline? If people wait till then to decline offers, then it'll be too late to offer them to anyone else, right?
  12. Is it bad form to accept a school and then change your mind later if you receive a better offer at the last minute?
  13. Ah, that explains it. Thanks! And congrats on the fellowship! Are you planning on accepting? I'm leaning towards accepting so we may end up being classmates. =P
  14. Cool! Congrats! I'm just wondering what they mean by "alternate". Does that mean we're on a waiting list? I did get the tuition award as well. Oh and for some reason, this part of their website says the GSAS fellowship is 17k/year. hmmm... which to believe... http://www.brynmawr.edu/gsas/Admissions/financial_aid.html
  15. Does anyone know what it means to be an alternate for a GSAS fellowship?
