  1. The results survey section of this forum had quite a number of rejections from UBC mechanical engineering department. I have not received any response from UBC (University of British Columbia) yet. Anyone else in similar situation?
  2. The admission application for University of British Columbia's Master of Eng (Mechanical) opens on 15th November 2011. I made the electrionic submission on the 18th November and had the supporting documents mailed to the University in early December 2011. The application closes on 01 Feb 2012. It is 5th May and almost 6months (or half a year) since my application and I am still waiting with no news of my application status. I don't even know if I am on the waitlist or not.
  3. Does it mean that I am rejected if I have yet to receive any news from UBC, M.Eng (Mechanica) program regarding my admission status? Does UBC mech eng graduate school send out admissions first then rejections? Anyone knows how the system works there? I've email the grad school administrator and all I get was a one liner reply (seems to me like a template reply) that the admission decision is still ongoing. Anyone with similar experience with UBC? Thanks.
  4. I see an acceptance for Master of Eng, Mechanical Engineering program, University of British Columbia in the results page. I wonder how the lucky person is.. care to share your acceptance experience here? I've applied for the same Masters program and has yet to hear back from them. This doesn't sound too good for me...

  6. Hi Cockneysparrow, Where do you hail from? Your use of the term "no-name" universities sounds familiar....
  7. I see an acceptance (on the results survey section) to University of British Columbia's Master of Science, mechanical engineering program today. I wonder when UBC will make decisions on the Master of Engineering, Mechanical Engineering professional program?
  8. Hi Vancouverites, Is it plausible to cycle to UBC from places like Richmond or Burnaby?
  9. Yes, finally.. it is April.. when most schools finalize on their post graduate intake. Good luck to everyone here waiting it out... impatiently.
  10. June notification is too late for international applicants who are professionals. The applicant would have to settle their current job arrangements, housing, family, tax matters.. a ton of issues to settle at home before making the move. Not to mention the tons of the same matters in the country where they are attending school with. This means a little over two months to settle things, it will be a challenge even for those who are logistically inclined. International graduate students would really appreciate early notification, even if it means a rejection.
  11. Hi there, Who else besides me is waiting for University of British Columbia's reply to their status for Master of Engineering/Science mechanical engineering? It has been a long wait..since the 1st Feb submission deadline. Judging from previous years results, Mid April is the earliest to hear back from Applied Science engineering department from Master of Science/Engineering results.

  13. I meant to say that living expenses are cheaper in California and Washingston compared to Vancouver. To put the record straight, tuition fees (full fees) in British Columbia are loer than most Universities (that I have considered) in the US (Sorry if I may have convey the wrong message in my previous post). The issue is, after adding all expenses on a 1 year program (rent, food, entertainment, transport.. etc). The difference in cost of living overrides the savings from the lower tuition fees (tuition fees difference between US and BC University is around C$6000 per year). Yes, almost everything is cheaper in US than Canada (other than tuition fees). The estimated cost of living for a year (including tuition and for a couple) in California is US$50000 and in BC, it is C$60000. I'm not going for any scholarship as I am enrolling in a professional master program and I am not from a developing country so I believe the scholarship will be put to better use for other international students. I will be trying for some teacher assistant schemes as I believe my 10 years of work experience is something worthwhile to share with undergraduate students. I am happy to know that I will be welcomed if I decides to enrol in UBC.
  14. Based on 2011 result survey, UBC will probably only notify me of the result in Mid April. Another month of wait for me.
  15. Does paying the full tuition fees help with easing the negative sentiment? I'm an international master student enrolling in UBC's professional master program. The professional master's fee is double that of the research based Master of Science program. Canadians may want to think about some segment of international students who actually have a net positive contribution to Canadian's economy and the graduate studies sphere. I will have to spend $60000+ for a year of stay in Vancouver for my master program if accepted. I have saved for 10 years in order to fund my master program plan (in North America). Will I be welcomed? Or should I consider USA instead (everything is cheaper even in California)?
