  1. Alternate for the ETA. I really doubt people will pass up this chance. I think it is time to cancel my plans for studying tonight and go drink wine instead.
  2. it is only tuesday...you never know.
  3. do you know how many people applied for the full? i hate all this not knowing
  4. so that is the thing that confuses me because last year they took in some of the people who applied to egypt eta program after the protests started happening there...i wish they'd let us know how many people applied since perhaps the arab spring discouraged people? i don't know.
  5. me too! i wonder how many people applied since there are only ten spots available. i don't think many people applied for the eta in previous years.
  6. you're not alone! although i don't like that we are all suffering slowly by not knowing the status of our futures, it is nice to know that other people share my pain.
  7. so we will definitely hear within 20 days...thanks for this information!
  8. that's awesome! glad i could help. are you applying for the full grant or eta?
  9. i'm don't know if the MENA countries and the SSA countries have similar policies with the whole pre-departure orientation thing. it was weird because i got two emails for save the date: the first was a general one for all applicants, but the second specifically stated the dates for the ETA orientation. at this point, i don't think it matters whether people received the email or not. we're going to find out soon enough if we are accepted.
  10. hm..you should call jermaine and ask him about this...did you apply for the eta or full? i think both are supposed to attend the pre-departure orientation but i could be wrong.
  11. yep! eta. i received the email on february 15th Dear Candidate: You were recently notified that you have been recommended for further consideration for a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship (ETA) Award. In the event that you are selected as a grantee, you will be required to attend a mandatory Pre-Departure Orientation in Washington, D.C. The Fulbright Pre-Departure Orientation session for grantees to the Middle East and North Africa will be held from Tuesday, June 26 – Friday, June 29. Chosen candidates will receive an official invitation and registration instructions later this spring. The costs associated with travel and accommodations for the length of the orientation will be covered by the U.S. Department of State. If you are aware of potential conflicts with the above session dates, please wait until you have received your notification of status. If selected, at that time you may contact IIE and complete a request for exemption. Exemption requests are not guaranteed, and requests will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by representatives from the U.S. Department of State. Let me know if you have any questions. Regards, Jermaine Jones
  12. i had the same experience a few months ago when they sent me my save the date email :/
  13. but north africa is a part of the middle east region of fulbright. jermaine jones said it'd be by mid-april....that gives us one more week of waiting (hopefully at most).
  14. if all else fails, there is this program you can maybe apply to: http://www.cdsintl.org/internshipsabroad/germany.php i used to live in germany and austria, so i understand why you'd wanna go there. good luck!
