  1. Hey, I have recently applied to CUNY Hunter, SUNY Stony Brook and Adelphi for my masters in social work. I am having a really hard choosing which school would be the best to choose. I think I have narrowed it down to CUNY Hunter and SUNY Stony Brook just because of Adelphi's high tuition price. I would like to know more peoples reviews on all three programs though. I've been having a really hard time comparing Stony Brook to Hunter, so any reviews would be helpful.
  2. Hi. I applied CCA, SFAI only two schools and I got accepted in CCA and SFAI both in MFA Film. Please read my stupid history and help me out guys I have bachelor's degree in Fine Art Painting outside of US, however, my portfolios are kind of filled with videos. I wanted to go for MFA in film so that I can have the opportunity to deeply engage in video/film field and stuff, but anyways I think I want to make videos in the context of art, not like getting into a film industry as a part... I should have done research about more schools carefully cause I kind of wasted last fall - winter time to prepare for admissions for Fall 2017 because I was confused if I wanted to go for this or not....like I was lack of self confidence. I was ready for applying Hunter Integrated Media Arts(IMA), CalArts Experimental Animation and UCLA Film but I just didn't submit applications last winter... So when I decided to go for MFA it was already March and I had no choice but those schools to apply for this Fall cause their deadlines were like end of March. Now that I got into both schools and CCA's offering me 20% tuition scholarship, I'm considering going for CCA maybe but I'm still confused...Now I'm thinking of going CCA only for a year and then apply for Hunter IMA next year...or just not going for MFA this year and looking for some residencies - if possible - until I apply for Hunter and other schools next year. I mean I researched some vimeos and everything about CCA and SFAI and I have this feeling that both are not the exact schools that matches my work...or the works I want to do... What do you guys think, what's the best to do? I really thought too much of all the options that I cannot think rationally anymore!!!! And do I have to pay back the scholarship if I don't register the second year? Seriously I'm kind of lack of basic infos about US schools... Please help me outtttt!!! I'm freaking out. Thanks a lot.
  3. I am in between two schools for masters in psychology, Hunter College and Teachers College Columbia. What is the overall reputation of these schools? Would Teachers College give me more of an advantage than Hunter? I have heard mixed reviews from current students from both schools which worries me. I feel outside NY, Hunter's name isn't as recognizable as Columbia. However, Hunter seems to offer more opportunities for research. Any advice helps! Thank you!
  4. Just got accepted into Hunter and Teachers College for MA in psychology! In your opinion what program is better? I have my bachelors in psych but little research experience, hence the desire for a masters. My overall goal is to be a clinical psychologist focusing on neuropsych. Both schools are great but I've heard mixed reviews about both programs. Anything helps thank you!!
  5. Hello everyone! I applied to Hunter and Smith and just recently heard back from Hunter regarding an interview. Any tips? Has anyone heard back from Smith for RD? I finished my application on 2/17. Thoughts on both schools? xo
  6. I just called the CUNY Hunter SLP & Audiology Department to ask what their timeline is for sending out remaining results since the April 15 deadline is rapidly approaching. She told me they are done with interviews, don't accept without interviews and they don't do a waitlist. If those that are accepted don't accept, they just don't fill those seats. No idea if this is true for the other CUNYs, though I did a quick check of the results page from past years and I don't see any waitlist notifications posted for either of the two I applied to (Hunter and Brooklyn). Someone on here recently said that CUNY Brooklyn does interviews in April so there may still be hope for anyone waiting on them. Just thought this might be helpful for anyone waiting to hear from a CUNY before they accept another offer! Good luck to everyone!
  7. Does anyone know if CUNY Hunter is conducting interviews this year? I know they did last year but didn't in 2015. I've seen some interview requests on the results page for CUNY Queens and CUNY Brooklyn but nothing for Hunter yet (though I noticed no one posted on the results page for Hunter interviews last year either so...). I called the general grad admissions office and they weren't sure and directed me to the SLP department. Have called the department number twice and no one answers.
  8. Hi Wassup guys! Happy Friday or (or Happy Day)! I hope everyone is enjoying their day. Its acceptance letter season and I am so glad the applying stage is over. Even more happy that I got accepted into the Fordham, Columbia, and Hunter/Bank Street Program Although I am very excited about the prospects of attending any of these programs, I am leaning towards Columbia. However, I have concerns about the costs and loans. Is there a way to leverage my financial aid packages to lower the costs? Or any other approaches to help me lower the costs and loans? Please let me know very excited to start my career with the lowest amount of loans possible
  9. Hi all new and excited to be here I recently applied to several social work grad schools, a very nerve-wracking and exciting process. I successfully got an interview invitation with the director of the Infant & Family Development and Early Intervention Program at Bank Street. I was wondering if any Redditors here may share some tips and tricks to get into this program? Would love to hear social work (children focused) career insight and other general grad school application tips as well, thanks!
  10. Hey Guys, I remember being in undergrad and sometimes feeling so distant from my peers because I was an international student. Well, here I am again on this voyage about to feel even weirder, this time as a grad student. I thought that we should have a space where we could be able to share experiences, answer questions, give advice, or just a space where you say what makes you feel ok about yourself. Good luck everyone! Disclaimer: I worked with International Services during my undergrad but this does not make me an immigration official. Although I can give my opinion on certain situations based on past experience, I recommend contacting your school directly about these questions.
  11. I am curious as to why people choose the programs they chose. What are the strengths and offerings of each program that makes them so attractive to you? One thing in my research I have a tuff time finding out is why people are applying to the programs they are applying to. For instance, I want to apply to Columbia because of their faculty mentorship to students. Each student are teamed up with 2 mentors who regularly visit your studio, and go onto outings together with. A friend of mine who attended the program even curated a show with one of her mentors. For RISD, I have read that they focus on the commercial aspects of working as an artist within the market context. Business education for artists was seriously lacking in my undergraduate program, and something I regularly am reminded of as I continue with my practice. For places like Yale I can't find anything specific, just reputation, and alumni history. Grad school wasn't an option for me until unexpectedly the middle of this year, so now I'm just rushing to meet the deadline with you guys. So I would appreciate any information that would help my understanding of this question. Specifically am curious about Hunter and MICA
  12. Anyone attending Hunter MSW program fall 2016?
  13. I'm currently an undergrad student (JUNIOR) and starting my process of applying to schools in New York and have a few questions: 1. I'm taking my GRE in June for the first time and can someone tell me how the score sending works - - When I receive the scores, will there be a set time of when I'm able to send the results by (like, do the scores disappear/expire after some time?) - Is it possible to send scores to school like how sending scores for SATs work - meaning, sending the best scores for each section if I take the GRE more than once? 2. I currently have a 3.55 cum.GPA and 3.68 GPA for the major so far with two major classes remaining. 3. I don't have any work experience - just volunteering to help take care of children/ undergraduate clinical observations. 4. I'm thinking about applying to CUNY Hunter but you need to have at least a B in all pre-req. classes and I only have one B- in one class- did anyone have this problem and still get in? - Can you tell me any of your experiences, whether accepted/rejected from schools in relation with your GPA, GRE, and resume/CV? I'm planning to apply to Queens College, Hofstra, Adelphi, LIU Post, St.Johns, Molloy and still deciding on other NY schools. Any suggestions, experiences, advice would be extremely helpful for this girl who is getting ready to swim in a pool of her tears. THANKS SO MUCH!
  14. Hi everyone! I had my group interview for CUNY Hunter's MSW One Year Residency Program on Wednesday 4/6. How soon after your interview did you get a decision? I'm really anxious... the interviewer said 10-14 days, possibly longer, but I'm hoping that the wait isn't that long! Thanks in advance Best, Jessica
  15. For a New Yorker who wants to practice social work in a hospital, which is the best program for me? Interested in a program that is less research based and tailored towards hospital work--especially in terms of field placement. Accepted to NYU and Columbia, offered money at NYU. Pending interview at Hunter.
  16. I am currently deliberating between Art History MA programs at Hunter and Christie's Education... I have been accepted to both and am totally torn between the two. My hesitation with Christie's is the cost! I really like the way their program is designed (unlike Hunter's general Art Hist. MA, it is very hands on and focused only on Modern/Contemporary Art and the Market) but it just seems to wayyyy too much money. Hunter is affordable and great but such a traditional program that it doesn't exactly carry the same allure as Christie's... Does anyone have any overwhelming pros/cons for either program that could help me make my decision? 0
  17. Does anyone know when Hunter will be starting the interview process? I submitted all of my paperwork January 25 and am anxiously waiting to hear something!!!
  18. Anyone apply to SLP programs on Long Island or in the NYC area? If so, where? Anyone get offers, yet? I applied to 1. Molloy 2. Hofstra 3. Adelphi 4. LIU Post 5. LIU Brooklyn 6. Brooklyn College 7. Hunter College 8. Queens College 9. St. John's GPA- 3.92 GREs weren't good Verbal 141 Quant. 139
  19. Hello! I was just admitted into Fordham and NYU's MSW programs this week, and Fordham requires a decision within two weeks, NYU within four weeks. Hunter is my top choice and won't give me a decision until mid to late March, but it's basically the only one I can afford. However, I need to go somewhere. I'm terrified of losing one of my current acceptances by waiting to hear from Hunter, and potentially not even getting in there and not being able to go to any school, but Hunter is also the only one that won't put me into serious debt. Do you know of any ways to work around this kind of situation where the schools need a decision so damn soon or ave any advice? I presume I can't accept one as a safety net and still be admitted to Hunter, although that would be ideal. If I put down a deposit for one school can another (Hunter) still admit me? Can I out down deposits to both NYU and Fordham? Thank you!

  21. Kill me now? How long does it take? This rolling admissions thing is brutal. Anybody got a clue how long this panic attack that grad schools are forcing me to go through will last? (What I really mean is whats the typical wait time to hear from these schools?) Also, if anyone who has been accepted, also applied, and/or went to these schools what your stats were like? GPA, extra-curicular, work experience, etc. I'm going bat shit here.
