I just got this email... I submitted my scores in Nov, 10..... this is good news bad news? I just resent them my scores.....

Dear Applicant,

Thank you for submitting an application to the Electrical Engineering department at Stanford University!

You are receiving this e-mail because we have not yet received your self-reported GRE scores. There is often a delay between the time your official scores are sent to Stanford and the time they are matched to your application. Please self-report your GRE scores by responding to this e-mail with the following information as soon as possible, as the review of applications is currently under way:

Name (Last, First):

Test Date (MM/DD/YY):

Verbal Score:

Verbal Percentile:

Quantitative Score:

Quantitative Percentile:

Analytical Writing Score:

Analytical Writing Percentile:

Also, if you have not already done so, please be sure to have ETS electronically send your scores to Stanford University at institution code 4704. No department code is necessary. If you entered a department code, please do not worry, your scores will still be matched to your application.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Best Wishes,

EE Graduate Admissions

Well, one thing we can judge from it is that they are still giving out acceptances. I was a little worried because so many people have reported acceptances already. I doubt they would ask about your GRE scores if they weren't still doling out acceptances.

Yes, thats true. Last year followed the same pattern. Most of them got it only in Feb. while a few of them got their acceptances in Jan. There is still a lot of time. There is nothing to be worried. But, I think it is normal for them to ask GRE scores and it doesnot imply a bad or a good news.

I have seen ~10 Stanford EE admits online so far which prolly means a good percentage of the usual quota (~150-200) have been admitted so there is a chance that all the fellowships/financial aid packages are already gone. Plus I think Stan EE started sending out admissions quite earlier than last year. That being said, I am getting worried a little.....

  • 2 weeks later...

Saw a few results posted in results section

As far as I know, Stanford EE has only sent unofficial acceptances. I know this because I have been in contact with a professor who contacted me via phone in late January saying that I would probably be admitted with some kind of fellowship. He's followed up through e-mail twice since then, most recently with a "congratulations" e-mail that said that I would be accepted with a departmental fellowship and that I was nominated for a Stanford Graduate Fellowship with a "good chance of receiving it" (results determined in "mid-February"...so whoever claims to have already received it by this point is probably being presumptuous). This e-mail was dated 02/06, and the professor claims that formal letters of admission will go out in ~ 1 week (i.e. this week); I say "claims" because another e-mail the week before said a similar thing in terms of timing. I guess they just have a ton of applications to work through.

Sorry if I add to anxiety, but I just wanted to note that I finally got an official acceptance letter (with official notice of an SGF) about an hour ago via e-mail (the e-mail also says that there will be no hard copy or "package" sent). Good luck to everyone who applied.

Undergrad Institution: top 5 in US

Major(s): EE

GPA in Major: 3.85 (at time of application...I think it's a bit higher now)

Overall GPA: 3.94

Length of Degree: 4 yrs

Position in Class: Top 10% (school doesn't rank)

Type of Student: Domestic

GRE Scores:

Q: 800

V: 630

W: 5.5

Research Experience: 2.5 years of undergraduate research, several publications, a few conference presentations

Awards/Honors/Recognitions: Goldwater scholar, Tau Beta Pi, Phi Beta Kappa, a couple of prizes in my university

Pertinent Activities or Jobs: 1 summer at research institute - resulted in 2 publications

Any Miscellaneous Accomplishments that Might Help: quite a few leadership positions? not sure if that helped, though...

I applied to MIT, Stanford, UIUC, Santa Barbara, and Cornell. I was officially accepted into MIT, Stanford, UIUC, and Santa Barbara. I heard back unofficially from Cornell (e-mail from a professor).

I guess if we havent heard anything we've been rejected ... : (

In an attempt to lower the anxiety on here let me say this: Stanford usually has a big second wave of admits (without funding) late Feb to early March. Also, the Feb 23rd deadline that tfc mentioned is a good sign, they prolly want to get replies from stellar applicants (who get in almost everywhere) to adjust the remaining # of slots before they send out the 2nd wave. Good luck everyone!
