Yikes. I just noticed a huge typo in an otherwise decent SOP to BU. Arrrrrrghhh. How did this happen? I read it over like a bajillion times!

I can commiserate. After reading my statement to Berkeley (as if I needed to hand them a reason to reject me) about ten times and having others do it as well, I found a typo in the freaking FIRST sentence. I saw that and immediately thought "$70 down the drain".

Well, it's not until the very end and it's more of a weird wording error than a typo. The rest of the SOP is fine, so I'm thinking I should be okay. Good luck with Berkeley, have you heard back yet?

I also just found a typo in ALL my statements.

There is a paragraph-ending sentence that had no period and just hangs there, like this

Also, I found an even more serious typo in my resume, which also got sent to all the schools. Go figure. Of course I also read both the statement and the resume approximately 10,356 times before submitting.

But I have gotten an acceptance from one school and an interview from another, so I guess it isn't a deal breaker. Don't despair!

Where did you see that? It's unbelievable that it's gonna take that long... I hope this does not mean that they have already contacted the accepted people ands the rest is gonna hear at the end of march...

I went on the website and it says that they are going to start notifying people mid to late March.

Sweet deal. Hoping to see you all there next year. Best of luck.

I hope to see you too! If I don't get in (which seems quite likely), I may may be doing a master's at UNCC or UNCG.

I called the Sociology Office yesterday, and I was told notifications will go out next week. The notifications will come in the form of an email and a letter. I hope it all works out!

Wondering the same thing. Anyone heard?

If I don't get in I still have GMU and Baylor to hear from. If i don't get in anywhere I may be working with some research organizations in NC still.

Well, that doesn't sound too bad. From what I saw, UNCW looks like it does an excellent job training students for research positions. I didn't apply there because I was a pretty poor fit, but I would have otherwise. Also, you'll be in sunny NC!

Yeah, NC is nice. I'm in Wilmington right now. Just finished a first draft of my thesis. I'd like to be in Boston though. Charlotte is a great city. I'll be chilling there for st. pats. Greensboro is a tiny town, mostly students living there.

Glad to hear that Charlotte is nice. I applied to UNCC and emailed the DGS with some supplementary materials and she seems really nice. Things are looking really, really bad for me PhD-wise (with BU basically being my last hope excluding my Indiana WL) so hopefully I'll get in to UNCC and with some kind of financial aid that is not in loan form.

I'm from Boston so I know firsthand that it's a great city to live in, especially for sociologists. If you do get in (and I hope you do, I hope we both do) then feel free to ask me any questions about the city.

I'm originally from Maine, so I've spent a good amount of time there. I visited in October and got to meet with some professors there. Good people. I also have quite a few friends up there. Its kind of a home away from home.
