Who else will be attending the University of Georgia come Fall 2011. I will be starting a PhD in the Genetics department and am currently trying to find a place to live. I'm excited to meet any and all future UGA grad students!

I don't know if I'll be going there, but I will be visiting there. If I go there, I may try to split a 2 BR apartment on campus with another grad student--it'd be pretty affordable.

I'm a first year PhD student in Health Promotion and Behavior at UGA (so no, not starting this fall) but I did want to put it out there that I'm looking for a roommate to share a 2 bedroom/2 bathroom with an extra dens/study area in each room for $425. If anyone's interested let me know!

I've been accepted to UGA and am most likely attending. Anyone have recommendations on places to live that allow pets?

What Program? I'm starting in Genetics. I know a lot of places allow pets I have a cat and I'm going to live in the Woodlands next year. A lot of places will accept pets with a fee you just have to talk to them.

I used to go to UGA and still own a 2 BR 2 1/2 BA Condo down there. It is on the bus line (City and UGA) and is off Milledge Ave. near family/grad housing. It is pretty affordable and I would love to rent it to a grad student(s) rather than some undergrads. Let me know if anyone is interested.

I'm attending UGA this fall as a PhD student and would like to know more about this property. You can PM me if it's still available.

I'll be attending UGA for their Masters in Public Administration (MPA) starting this fall. Haven't even thought about living arrangements in Athens yet, as I've been so focused on renting out my house in DC. Also have pets (small, well-behaved), so will either buy a place or try to rent a townhouse or SFH in Athens, Winder, Lawrenceville, Atlanta, or the Gainesville area. Would certainly be interested in meeting up with other graduate students upon arrival, which should be late July or early August. Hope to see you all very soon!

Hey there -- my wife and I will be in Athens this weekend looking for housing. Any recommendations on neighborhoods to look into, or those to avoid? We've got a pretty good list that includes townhouses near UGA, single family homes in Normaltown, and then more suburban places and farmhouses just outside the Athens beltway and in Winterville. Just curious as to where/what are good areas. We have a Vizsla and a Norwich Terrier, so we need pet friendly. Specifically, do people know anything about Woodlands of Athens, Summit at Athens, Pinecrest, Timber Creek, or Bridgewater? We're hoping to find an area where we can meet people yet avoid too much undergrad craziness. Thanks!!

I am an incoming PhD in Mass Communications student coming to UGA this August. For those looking for housing, myself and an another PhD student are renting a nice 3-bedroom home in the Pinecrest subdivision on the Eastside of Athens and are looking for a 3rd roommate to share in the lease. 12-month lease starting August 1st. Room rate is $300 (plus 1/3rd of utilities). Contact me if interested. Thanks!

Hey let me warn you about the commute from Atlanta ( if you decide to buy/rent there).....316 is getting more and more bottle-necked in certain spots, especially during afternoon rush hour...

I feel terrible for neglecting GradCafe (and this thread) for so long! But I have been writing my Comps this summer.

I would sooner shoot myself in the foot than commute from Atlanta. However, I know a LOT of graduate students who do it. It comes down to what you're comfortable with and what you want. Those who do commute usually complain about getting up early/going home late, having to stack classes/meetings to avoid commuting daily, and the gas prices. Living in Winder, Lawrenceville, or Gainesville are doable. There are also small towns around Athens like Winterville, Jefferson, Danielsville, and Bishop that are viable, too (especially if you like the small town feel).

I always send incoming graduate students to CragisList to find housing. You'll see the usual spam from certain complexes who always advertise, but you also find some gems. It's where I found the house I rent (with my fantastic back yard and awesome landlord) near the Navy School (now the Medical Campus).

I'm subleasing my room in four bedroom apartment for the summer May-July(all my roommates are bio/science majors studying for the MCATS so very studious)

it's $385 a month with utilities included! ($5 option for internet) I live at Lakeside Apartments, and the Athens transit bus & UGA night buses run through Lakeside so very convenient to get to campus.

Furniture is included in the living room and in the bedroom as well!

Pets are allowed with a fee.

Please let me know if anyone is interested!

Hello all, I am coming to Athens for my PhD in English Lit (CW dissertation.) I'd love to meet some extra-departmental peeps at some point myself. Just wanted to drop in here and say "hi!" as people are zeroing in on their decisions!
