A way to filter out Master's versus PhD results. As of yet I haven't found a completely reliable way to do this.

1. I've found this the most frustrating part of the results section. I'm applying to PhD programs so I don't care about when potential masters students are admitted & rejected. I'm sure they feel the same about the PhD notifications.

2. I would also add to the "numbers" section masters GPA. I know a good number of us have a master's degree already and my guess is those grades are more meaningful to admissions committees than our undergraduate grades, especially if it's been a long while since you graduated initially.

3. I think that people post things on the results page in response to someone else's result postings because they are looking for information. Since we don't know who actually posted the result I'm wondering if there is some way to have a a link to reply that would be anonymous sort of like if you respond to a craig's list add. You don't actually get that person's email address. Perhaps messages could be pushed to the gradcafe mail system, at least for those registered. I think this would eliminate a lot of "others" that are listed in terms of results and clean up the page.

Thanks for soliciting feedback. I really appreciate the opportunity!

No problem. I don't promise to be able to do any this time this year ... but I am planning a revamp for 2013 and your input is welcome.

I know that it takes a significant amount of time to make the types of changes people are suggesting. I'm just happy to help make this site better for those that will use it in the future.

One thing, I think might be both beneficial to everyone is the benefit of being able to note why a particular result is spam. This may help save you admins time as well.
Decision made.

I think the low-hanging fruit would be (many mentioned above):
1. change location to local vs. international
2. allow sort by acceptance date as well as post date
3. make degree type (i.e. masters vs. phd) a separate field so that we can sort out the undesirable results
4. add a field or set of fields about funding offers

In the not-so-low-hanging-fruit category, I've often wondered how frequently interviews lead to offers. I know this varies by school. It seems that if userID were tracked internally for posters who are logged in when they submit, then their submissions about interviews could be linked to their submissions about rejection or acceptance.

Thanks for all your hard work!
Accepted (6): Purdue University (Communication/Media, Science, and Technology); Michigan State University (Media and Information Studies); Syracuse University (iSchool); University of Wisconsin-Madison (Journalism and Mass Communication); University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (iSchool); Northwestern University (Technology and Social Behavior)
Rejected (3): University of Washington (iSchool), Cornell (Communication); University of Michigan-Ann Arbor (iSchool)

Maybe divide results into more general, browse-able categories, such as Biology, Physics, English, Philosophy, Comp Sci, etc, etc

The ability to comment on a posting (on a thread that you would have to click to) would be nice too.

Applied: 10 (Harvard-MCB, MIT-Bio, Tufts-ISP, UCSF-Tetrad, UC Berkeley-MCB, Scripps-Bio, UCSD-Biomed Sci, UCLA-ACCESS, Stanford-Biosciences, UC Santa Barbara)
Interviews: 9/10 (UC Berkeley-MCB, UCSF-Tetrad, Scripps-Bio, UCSD-Biomed Sci, Tufts-ISP, MIT-Bio, Harvard-MCB, UC Santa Barbara, UCLA-ACCESS)
Acceptances: 5/6 (UCSD-Biomed Sci, Tufts-ISP, Harvard-MCB, Berkeley-MCB, MIT-Biology)
Rejections: 2/10(Stanford-Biosciences, UCSF-Tetrad)

I think it'd be good to let people post their grad GPAs, too, in case they're applying to PhDs with MAs in hand.

Also a category for MA/PhD programs would be nice. I know you can note it in the comments (and I would if I had applied to an MA/PhD and been accepted to MA), but it would help people know how many slots were left this application season in the PhD program if they knew that someone who got accepted was actually not starting their PhD that year. Not to mention it lets people who applied to the MA/PhD program know how that's going.

Has something been changed with regards to the results search? All of a sudden, my searches for "art history" are now netting results for lots of non art history programs.

Something had changed. We moved the results system to a new server, the configuration was a bit different. I think I've got it all working correctly now.

Hey all, I'm not an admin, but I think I have answers to some questions. Or I just misunderstand the question, which happens often.

A way to filter out Master's versus PhD results. As of yet I haven't found a completely reliable way to do this.

I just use the search function. So, for example, if you type in "english phd," you get only people who have applied to English programs, and the results have PhD in them (either straight PhD or MA/PhD).

http://thegradcafe.c...lish phd&t=a&o=

Maybe divide results into more general, browse-able categories, such as Biology, Physics, English, Philosophy, Comp Sci, etc, etc

The ability to comment on a posting (on a thread that you would have to click to) would be nice too.

Again, you can use the search function to sort out responses to only those subjects. If you type in "biology," you can filter the responses so you only have biology-related posts.

Sorry if these questions were already answered or if I have misunderstood . Just trying to be helpful ^_^.

Nothing to be done.

I think instead of "international" the country of origin of the degree should be included. Like India, China, Korea, etc. This is actually more informative.

I agree with the poster above, allowing people to say their country/city rather than American / International provides more information. Plus it is confusing with Canadian universities where some Canadians mark themselves as International because they're not American but they're obviously not "international" according to the university. Stating ones city is also important because I think some universities may be interested in students that live within the universities' city.

Could we possibly get a banner on top directing people with questions to the forum side? For the "for the poster below" people?

I have repeatedly found schools listed under various spellings and names that don't come up within the same search, if I'm searching for that school specifically. I might, however, find the same school under another spelling if I search by major.

There should be a drop down list or better, more specific instructions for inputting school information, especially when there are multiple campuses by different names or when they are located in different cities. This way we'll be able to accuratly find all results for a single school.

University of Washington is a good example, as they have campuses in both Seattle and Tacoma. This school is often refered to U of W, and that creates a problem as well.

I would also be great if there was a way to vote, poll, or confirm from users which school naming is correct or most accurate,so other school names can be pushed out of the system.

I think that clicking "date" should sort by date notified while "date added" should be clickable, and which will then sort by date added. It doesn't make sense to me that clicking on "date" for the date modified column then sorts by date added.

Agreed. I'm actually working on this ... It's kind of a precursor to doing anything more useful.
