Hearing from the Kennedy School?

Hello all,

Am curious: Does anyone know when/how HKS MPP applicants will hear whether they've been accepted or rejected? I understand current students phoned accepted applicants last year, but was that the first and only notification? Did they send out emails or letters first?

Additionally, I'd love to know what type of candidates applied to HKS this year - scores, work experience, etc - and get some feedback on whether I have a shot at getting in.

More about me:

Flaws: 3.3 GPA, 560 Quant, 650 Verbal (testing not my strong point), took stats in college, but didn't get around to econ because I was a science and history major. I plan to take econ this summer no matter where I end up going.

Strengths: attended a top 20 liberal arts school, double major, successful two-year stint working for a respected Washington, DC consulting firm where I was a contractor to the EPA. Made total career change in 2004 to become a journalist. Am now senior reporter covering congressional politics for nationally recognized daily that focuses on congress, the white house and lobbying. Have won writing awards and fellowships.

Thoughts? I have no sense of what other type of students have applied to Kennedy. (I've also applied to Georgetown, Harris, La Follette, and Humphrey Schools).

Thanks!

This makes me think... Anybody care to wager on when we will hear from HKS? I'm betting Friday, March 13 for acceptances, March 16 for (gulp!) rejections. (Although their confirmation email says we will hear back at the end of March...)

Wabbitt09, from what I can garner from last year's posts, it seems HKS sent out admit emails all throughout the day on Friday, March 14 and followed up with the phon-a-thon on March 18. As for your chances try this.

Good luck!

YIKES! March 13 could be a very good or very bad day because that is the day the Princeton WWS is notifying students (at least according to their emails to applicants).

Wait, emails to applicants this year? I didn't receive an email. Should I be worried? From the online status check page, it looks like they received everything.

No reason to be worried - now I can't even find the email where I read it. Maybe I saw that on their website? I only received their confirmation emails. I know I read March 13 though. lol. Sorry to worry you!

It doesn't take much to worry me these days. I also just noticed that we have 2 Friday the 13ths in a row during notification time. That can't be a good sign. (Although apparently we'll be getting acceptances, not rejections on March 13.)

I hear you. I get myself worried too. Overanalyzing every thing I hear and read. It will be nice when this is all said and done. Maybe this year Friday the 13th is lucky! :)

I've been making all my plans around GSPP, figuring out where I'm going to intern in the Bay area and where I want to work after graduation. (Berkeley's still a long shot, but I've convinced myself I'm getting in.) It definitely takes the pressure off of the WWS decision, though. If I somehow get into both GSPP and WWS, I'm going to have a serious crisis, albeit an enviable one.

By the way, is mail being delivered today, or can I stop checking the mail every 15 minutes for my GW official acceptance letter?

WWS seems to revel in scaring people by not putting up updates on the Embark form. I had a crisis a day before the deadline when I thought they hadn't got everything I'd sent them. But they said that material uploaded or submitted online wouldn't show on the tracking sheet. Maybe they judge applicants by their responses to a crisis? I think we're all doomed, in that case.

....and traveler is a mole sent to blend in with our neurotic little community, only to test us with an innocuous statement about an email from the admissions department...at which point we all go down in flames.

 Traveler, I think policy_applicant is about to vote you off MPP Island.

It's nice, though, to have a little neurotic community to obsess with...even if I can't get myself to stop clicking the "refresh" button on my email, at least I know I can usually come here and read a new comment from someone else just as compulsive as I am!

too many, i think...

in all seriousness, hks does a very good job at not letting applicants know how many apply, what their admissions rates are, what admitted students' gpa/gre scores are, etc. i'd be curious to know any of this information, as well!
