I also applied to the GEM fellowship and was matched about a month ago. I have not heard anything yet since there is no confirmation of the schools I have applied to in the database. I got an email saying I will hear from them in April once the schools confirm I have applied.

Hello guys, I applied to Gem and after a week I was matched. This week I received and email from one of the GEM companies (MITRE) for a potential internship during the summer. They called me yesterday and we had a small phone interview. So next week they will send me an email to know if I passed to the next interview. Crossed fingers! I will Keep you posted!

Hello guys,

I also received the same email. Thanks Double shot for the good wishes. So this is my update. I had the phone interview and it went great, the interviewer was just asking me questions about my personal statement and previous research experiences. However, since MITRE conducts some research for the government they require all the interns to be US citizen, and I am a green card holder. So at this point I do not think that I am going to get GEM. Event if MITRE through my application back to the application pool, I don't think that there is time for other employer to review my application and set an interview. My status is still "Matched" so Idk if other company is reviewing my application (finger crossed). I am going to try to be positive but I also need to be realistic so we'll see...  Anyway I will keep you posted.

I finally reached out to my POIs at the universities and every one of them have verified my status. No contact from any employer yet though! Still crossing my fingers and hoping for the best!

Congrats, jimluis!

@MechE2014, I think so far all of us currently here have employer match status.

@TexasGuy, all the best with your application!

I applied for the early consideration option back in Oct. Sometime around Dec 10th (not sure exactly) my Employer Status went from "unmatched" to "held" and has stayed the same since. I didn't receive any email from GEM to contact the POIs at the schools I applied, maybe that could be because 7 of the 8 schools I applied to had already verified they received my application? Best of luck to everyone who applied!

If you applied for the GEM doctoral fellowship, but were accepted into a Masters Program at university after applying to the PhD program, are you disqualified for the fellowship?

To my understanding, it would be up to the company to decide whether or not they would still like to sponsor you. Master's applicant's are more attractive because the company sees a ROI much sooner than with a PhD student. I don't think your situation would be a problem for most employers, but it depends on what they need.
