U of Ottawa (accepted, but I it down as I was not offered any funding)

U of Calgary (rejected)

U of Alberta

I plan on applying to UBC and UofToronto as well.

I just got an email from Wisconsin-Madison. I got preselected. A faculty member will contact me next week for an informal interview. What kind of questions should I expect from this program during the interview? Any comments are appreciated. Excited!!!

I am currently doing my MA at Syracuse University, and am just about to finish the program. I am waiting to hear back from most of my schools for the PhD, and I have posted them in my signature. I wish all the luck in the world to my fellow Peninsular/Latin American literature and culture enthusiasts! Competition is especially fierce this year.

Has anyone heard of NYU, Boston U or UC Davis?

A colleague of mine has applied to all of those schools. They got into UC Davis and Boston, but will be turning down the offers due to other ones that are more suitable for their particular research interests. Hopefully this will open up a spot for those who were wait-listed at UC Davis. I know that NYU generally interviews in February and makes final decisions in March and April.

Did you check the results board? I think I saw something from UC Davis.

Hi, I actually heard back from UC Davis and from BU. If it helps, I am not going to accept their offers, which means that a spot in each university might open up! I am still waiting to hear back from NYU, USC and Princeton, though.

Hey guys,

I just saw results from PItts on the results board. Have you heard anything from them?

Thanks so much for bringing that to our attention! I hadn't seen it, as it was listed under "Hispanic Languages and Literatures". I will be checking my mail and email (they even say on the site that results are from a variety of sources each year for whatever reason). I also checked the graduate application status check with the link they provided, and I didn't see any new notifications.

Hi

I was accepted on WashU for Hispanic Languages and Literatures and I am waitlisted at Tulane and UC Davis for Spanish and Portuguese.

If I get to choose, I want to be prepared. Any advice? I like Brazilian and Mexican literature. I am also very interested in gender studies.  WashU is really good at Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Tulane is good at Brazilian Literature.

Thanks!

I suggest comparing programs. I know this seems harsh, but review what kind of funding they are offering. Will you survive with those funds? Remember you are going to be there for a few years.  Look at the requirements. See if the department gives you an option to specialize in something (gender studies, brazilian lit). Look carefully at the profs. Are there any you would like to work with? Read their articles or books to get a better sense of their interests and knowledge. I would also look at the department as a whole. Is it diverse? Sometimes we get caught up in the department's ranking without seeing all the other factors that could enrich our experience at that institution. Good luck!

Hi all! Has anyone applied to/heard back from Ohio State?

I applied for the MA program in Hispanic linguistics. At this point I'm not very hopeful, but it's the only school I haven't heard back from yet!

I heard back from them at the end of January. However, I applied for the PhD in Latin American Cultural and Literary Studies. According to posters who shared info on OSU in previous years in our fields, they have contacted MA candidates as late as the end of March, so I would imagine you will hear soon if you haven't already! Be sure to check the website, as they seem to update that before sending more formal notifications. I wish you the best of luck!

Thanks so much for the info! By the way, I am originally from Syracuse! Now I live in Rochester. I hope you've enjoyed your time there. :-)

Updates? Which program did you select? Which schools turned you down? Which schools did you turn down?

I am applying to several universities for a Spanish linguistics program and I am interested to hear the results of all those that posted here. Please update!
