LSU - Baton Rouge

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if anyone could shed some more light on the LSU - Baton Rouge SLP program for me. I am across the country and will not be able to visit in the one week that they gave us to accept or decline our offer. The more research I do, the more intrigued I become. I love the new therapy gym, language preschool, and emphasis on clinical. Does anyone have any insight into the support of the faculty and feel of the area? It would be a huge move for me. Any information you have would be much appreciated!

I can't help you in terms of the program, but I went to LSU for undergrad. It was a huge move for me, too, as I grew up in NYC. I can help you with the lay of the land and such things, if you should need it.

I grew up in Baton Rouge and went to undergrad at LSU, although don't know much about their SLP program as I'm going somewhere else. The LSU area where you'd be spending the majority of your time has a typical college town feel. LSU is a gorgeous campus. People are super friendly in my experience. Great food. Traffic is terrible (one major negative in my book). Any other questions, feel free to message me :)

I know some acceptances have gone out...still haven't received mine. Has anyone else gotten their decision yet? Anyone know when we'll all be notified? Seems so late this year.

I received an acceptance letter on the 22nd, and was instructed to let them know of my decision by the 31st, but I would email admissions since the postal service is not the most reliable

Yeah the only reason why I'm waiting to contact is because I go to school in the Midwest and I usually get mail anywhere up to a week later than everyone else. Maybe they're sending another wave on the first?

From my understanding they are sending out another round of acceptances after the 31st deadline. I am on the westcoast and my letter showed up around the same time as the other posters on this site.

-Bubellina are you accepting your offer?

-nolalee it seems like you really like this program, would you mind sharing your reasons why. Good luck!

I actually visited the program in the spring of my junior year. The faculty were so nice and accommodating. They asked me what my interests were, and when I told them TBI and aphasia, they immediately invited me to go and observe a student clinician and her aphasic client. I just really liked the atmosphere and what they had to offer. It felt like a great fit. They have so many opportunities and options! Also my family is in Baton Rouge and it would just be really convenient to live there. :)

Hi Sspeechie, I have accepted the offer and am super psyched even though I've never been to Louisiana before and I know the culture will be very different from New York where I am originally from...aside from the schools great reputation I also really want to go because it is near New Orleans, because of the climate, because of the food, (lol), interesting Cajun culture, and because I'm really ready for something radically new. If you choose to go, please let me know!! I don't know anyone else who is going.

Nolalee. I hope you receive an acceptance, and have my fingers crossed for you

Thank you so much! Means a lot. :)

I definitely think you'll experience culture shock, but I looooove Louisiana. Everyone is so nice and so laid back. My parents actually moved from New Orleans to Boston and my mom became so stressed with the massive change in just people! Also, can't beat the food. :)

Hey all! I'm from the Chicago area and am 99% sure I will be attending LSU next year. (Their deadline is so early and I'm still waiting to hear from 4 schools)  I was wondering if anyone who posted above would mind commenting on the cost of living in Baton Rouge and the availability of off-campus housing within walking distance of campus? It would be appreciated!

I am so excited about their program and the professors all seem amazing!

Hi, there! I will be attending LSU this Fall!!!  I haven't visited the campus or area yet and would so appreciate any housing information or tips- off-campus and preferably within walking distance (I have a quiet, well-behaved dog, so somewhere pet friendly).
