Canadians gaining funding for US Schools?

Hello,

I just wanted to see if anyone was in the same boat as me (Canadian attending a US college this fall in a master's program), and wanted to know if they obtained a grant or scholarship.

Are there any grants or scholarships available still for Canadians pursuing their Graduate degree in the US for this fall?

Thanks.

I'm a Canadian attending grad school (PhD program) in the US. Are you in the sciences? I currently have an NSERC Postgraduate Scholarship (PGS). The application is usually due around the middle of October (October 15th this past year). The master's scholarship from NSERC (PGS-M if you're in the States) is one year of funding, so perhaps you can apply this fall for next year if you are in a science master's program that's two years long.

Unfortunately I don't know of anything that's still available for this fall.

To narrow it down a little bit, I was wondering about Canadians that receive funding for social sciences and / or humanities for their grad program.

I was given an offer to cover half my tuition but I am still looking for more funding to cover the rest.

Thanks for the replies.

Just an update--as of this year, the NSERC PGS-M program is no more and only CGS-M will be awarded (note: in the past pretty much every Masters level NSERC award has been a CGS-M except for the ones that take them to the US). Now, you apply for the CGS-M directly to the school you want to attend (much like a OGS if you have done that before) and the school itself determines who to give awards too (not NSERC). Also this means you must keep the award in Canada.

Unfortunately, it's the same sad story for every international student--very limited funding opportunity from their home country and even fewer in their host country (almost all federally granted awards will require citizenship!). There may be some and I hope others can point you in that direction, but I literally know 4 potential awards I can apply to at all!

I honestly would highly recommend applying directly to PhD programs in the US (they don't have the Undergrad-Masters-PhD system like we do in Canada) unless you are specifically doing a professional Masters, in which case, I am not sure they are funded in Canada anyways so it's not a huge difference. At least in my field, it's totally not worth paying anything out of pocket for a Masters in the US (especially since Masters in Canada are always fully funded).

Good luck!

Oh, thanks for the heads up on that! I had no idea NSERC changed the PGS-M/CGS-M awards since last year. Looks like I got my NSERC PGS-M just in time then!
