BU VS USC VS NEWSCHOOL

hello guys,

This is really important to me so it would be lovely if you guys can give me some insight. I have gotten accepted to some of the most amazing graduate advertising programs including michigan state. uni of florida. BU. Newschool (media management) and USC (strategic PR)

I am an undergraduate in film and an international student who has applied to advertising. All these universities are coming down to the same cost for me, so technically that is not the issue here anymore. The thing is i am a having an uber hard time deciding anything really, so it would be amazing if you can give me some insight plz!!

BU

PROS:

  • Advertising program as well as PR
  • their comm dept consists of filmmaking/advertising/radio so i can take electives in anything (maybe film so i can stay connected)
  • Boston good job prospects around newyorrk and BU itself.
  • its the educational hub.
  • AD-LAB

CON:
- bad bad bad weather

- no proper campus (bt i actually like the city feel)

USC

PROS:

  • the name of course.
  • california (my entire family lives there, jobs in good places)
  • weather

CONS:

  • strategic PR seems to dry for me, i wanna study something creative & adv in boston has design classes as well as video campaigns as well.

NEW SCHOOL

PROS

  • Newyork (good connections)
  • its pretty popular
  • i like the couse (media amangement)

CONS:

  • seemed very liberal artsy on their Skype meet
  • this program itself is very new. it used to be a diploma before.
  • no adv/pr stuff.

And should i even consider university of florida???

Please let me know. any advice if you guys have been to the following schools or anything.

Sounds like you love BU! It has the name, you love the program and it provides the connection. What's stopping you?? The weather is really not that bad. It's only bad compared to California. But everything is bad compared to California except maybe Florida. Plus it kinda does have a campus, most the buildings are concentrated unlike nyu which is the definition of no campus. I vote for BU.

You know usually I am not that shallow. But i got rejected from USC in my undergrad and for some reason since everyone in my family went there and the whole legacy thing it has going on it was somehow very important for me to get in there. I underestimated myself and thought I'd never get in. But i did. of course i had a way better application then i did back then. So part of me wants to go to USC bt just because i know it will be convenient, and ill have fun showing around (to my family)!

But then theres this second part of me which really wants to smack the first one hard and go to BU! because you are spot on, I love the program.

California is hard to let go of. But i think ill take the shot.

Any other insights, anyone?

PS: Ive also gotten a scholarship at NEWSCHOOL. Is it any good??

May I ask how much? Because it is totally different when there's money involved :P you just have to ask yourself if legacy is a big part of your identity. I don't think there's a "shallow" answer. If legacy is important and that's what makes you you and makes you happy, I will say go for it. It all depends on your priorities.

It all depends on if your family is helping out with your tuition and not and if going to prestigious school is gonna help you earn more money in the long run. 30% is a pretty significant amount, but you will also be living in NYC which is quite expensive. Nyu gave me 40% scholarship but after I calculated, it is almost if not exactly the same if I go to northwestern instead. You might have to do some math and see the total amount you will spend for each places if money is a factor that you will consider.
