What are you doing before grad school?

Just as the title asks: What are you doing before grad school?

I figured that we needed a thread to discuss all of the exciting (or maybe not so exciting) things that we are doing in preparation for the big change.

Personally, I'm still finishing up my undergrad degree until mid June. Then, I'm moving out to my new university and beginning RA work. I want to keep on top of my studies, because I'm the type of person that can fall behind when I take too long of a vacation from course work, so I'm also taking the Johns Hopkins University Data Science courses on Coursera and reading through my PI's and future collaborator's papers. I'm still figuring out all of the moving details and need to have a large garage sale, but my course load is light so I have a fair amount of time.

Working, working, working! And volunteering. I have nothing exciting planned at this point. Just saving money for my move and trying to find time to sleep! Won't be moving to my new city until mid August a few days before classes start.

ETA: Oops, just saw that this was posted under the Biology thread. my apologies!

Also working until the move. We're relocating at the very end of June. Once we're settled, it's possible I might start working in my lab. But if not, I'm happy to relax for a couple of weeks

No problem! Good input still.

Working at my old high school job (ice cream sundae, anyone?) and trying to save money and pay off my car loan. I might also attempt to get in good enough shape to run a half marathon!

I set a date for my Master's thesis defense (July 1st!!) so that will definitely occupy my time for a while. Then I'm planning to stay in my current town for about another month, so I have time to hang out with friends and do all the things I want to do before I leave. The big move will take place sometime in August, so that will definitely be a large distraction.

I do like the idea of taking a class though and I was planning on starting a book on R, but I like the idea of an online course too. The Data Science courses look like to be right up my alley. My current school is kind of weak in that area, so I would like to learn a bit about it before starting my PhD program. Thanks for that link Monochrome, I'm definitely going to look further into that.

I'll be at my school until my graduation, which is mid June. Right after that, I'm going to the Connecticut, where I'm going to grad school, to sign my lease and look at the house I'm renting. Then I'll be back home with my family for about 60 days, doing absolutely nothing. Lots of time with friends and family before I permanently move away and start a new life!

Graduating in 3 weeks, then planning to sell/get rid of almost everything over the two weeks following. Then, I will move around June 10 and start in my lab the following week. I'll have a busy summer of collecting samples and working in the lab. I'll try to get out, have fun,  and explore my new area as much as possible.

I still have to graduate and finish my thesis. After that's done (3 weeks left!), I will probably continue working on thesis-related research into June. I have two week-long family trips to the Jersey shore and the Boundary Waters planned, which I will start to look forward to once the semester has finally finished. I'll probably take another weekend trip somewhere close-by with my boyfriend before he starts his new job. Other than that, I hope to go up to my family's cabin a few times and spend lots of time relaxing and reading papers authored by the professors I want to rotate with. My lease doesn't start until a week after I am required to be in Champaign-Urbana, so I probably won't be moving there until the last minute to minimize the costs of living in a hotel.

Still have to finish undergrad thesis in order to graduate in 6 weeks. Then, I will be sticking around my current lab to do some more research till August. In the mean time, I still have to find an apartment.

I didn't think first year would be hard enough, so I'm having a baby this summer.

This is odd, but this is the second pregnancy/baby related post that I've noticed the user microarray has downvoted.

Microarray, if you don't personally want children that's fine, but it's super weird that you are downvoting people that are.

I'm very sorry I didn't adhere to her child-free "movement".. I would be getting a lot more sleep if I had just accepted a stranger's lifestyle choices as my own.. oh well.. next week I'll return to lab and find out how productive I can be while ridiculously sleep-deprived.
