Is it okay to cite CNN in my SOP?

The following is in my SOP...

 

"... I was able to experience first-hand the rapidly-growing economy of Poland and appreciate the many profitable successes since the fall of the Soviet Union. Despite a poor economic background, the country has become one of the fastest growing economies within the European Union and was the only one to avoid the recession of the 2000s. I believe Poland’s fiscal achievements to be a strong example for any political structure or business. "

 

The second sentence is my own knowledge, but I know it needs a citation. I found an article on CNN discussing these facts. Is it appropriate to cite the news source?

You don't need to have citations in your SOP. The SOP should be a document about you, your interests, and your goals.

 

Even if you did need citations, I wouldn't not cite a CNN article you found online.
