Why won't FAFSA/banks give me loans to study in Spain?

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys!

I have a BA in History from and American university, and I've accepted an offer to do an MA in Political Science at the Autonomous University in Barcelona in Spain. I need student loans, but when I tried to apply for them through FAFSA and even through private bank websites my school was not listed (meaning FAFSA/US banks won't give me loans to study there). Why is this? Does the US not recognize it as a reputable institution (they offer loans for many other foreign institutions)? Is this a warning sign thay I shouldn't study there (I this is nothing to worry about, where can I can loans from)? Thanks!

Hi,

do not think for a moment that it is not a reputable school just because it is not on the FAFSa list. They do not support many great international institutions (for what reasons I am not exactly sure).

Yes, unfortunately if it is not on the FAFSA that means you cannot get federal aid however you might be able to get some private loans such as Sallie Mae..it all depends...Also try to look for fellowships or other scholarships to finance your studies.

Good luck!
