English major here, not CSD.

Recommended Posts

As I am majoring in English (will finish this December), and minoring in Services for the Deaf, will I most likely need to take some prerequisite courses in the spring?  I will be finished with my degree, so that would be the optimal time to do this.  Will I even be eligible for SLP with this major and minor?

I am rather new to the decision that I want to go the SLP route, but also very firm in that decision.  I am pretty sure I will need prereqs, though.  Also, do any of you know what are good schools that offer these classes online?

Thank you!!

I'm in the same boat (linguistics major, so I have taken little to no prereqs).

Some schools require a CSD degree, others look for specific prereq courses. Some schools even take out of field applicants in extended-length programs. Look at what your ideal grad schools want.

Online prereq schools include Utah State, which has been mentioned highly on this forum.

Depends on what schools you're looking at applying to and what they offer. If you can go ahead and get pre-reqs where you're at then I say do that. Better to get it over now then wait (and possibly waste time and money applying only to be denied or waitlisted bc you don't meet requirements). Shouldn't take you too long to get them out of the way since you'll already have many other requirements completed for your current degree. But definitely check into schools you're interested, or better yet give them a call/email and ask directly!

Some schools, like Emerson, Northwestern, and MGH, offer prereqs in the form of a crash course the summer before classes start after you've been accepted. Utah State University is a good place to take courses online. Different schools require different prereqs, so I'd recommend choosing some schools to apply to first and then only take the prereqs you need.

Thank you!!  I was thinking the spring would be the perfect time to take prereq classes, as I will be finished in December.  I just do not have the time in my schedule to take any extra classes this semester, even online.  Thank you for the all the suggestions, I will definitely be putting them to use.
