Reach & Safety Schools

When applying for undergrad programs everyone seemed to have their safety & reach schools. How many of you have those for grad school? Honestly, all schools feel like "reach" schools for me with my less than stellar academic record and rather unimpressive volunteer history. Anyone feeling the same?

I've applied to NYU and am applying to Fordham which are my reach schools. From reading past threads on this forum, it seems like NYU responds quickly when you apply early. If I'm accepted, I won't be applying to any other schools. However, if I'm not, I'll probably apply to two safety schools.

NYU and Fordham were the last schools to get back to me; quite some time after I'd heard back from the rest of them. Riiiight before the April 15th deadline, when I had already submitted deposits elsewhere. I don't think either of them are rolling admission, so be patient.

Thanks. I'll keep that in mind. If I don't end up hearing back by the end of the month, I'll apply to a couple more.

I have a friend who applied last November and heard back four weeks later. And I read a post here saying he/she applied 9/28 (of last year) and heard back 10 days later, so I was hoping they'd be that quick this time around too.

Good to know that isn't always the case.

There were a bunch of us still impatiently waiting to hear back in April last year, lol. I applied in December. Hopefully they'll speed it up this year. Their computer system was really glitchy, so that may have what to do with it.

Yes, my reach schools are SDSU, CSULB, & my safety schools are CSU CHICO, SACRAMENTO, & SAN JOSE. Although like you said I feel like all of them are reach schools for me, i just think SDSU & CSULB are more competitive. My gpa is average and i barely have 2 years experience

I hear back from NYU Sept 29, early admission, because the deadline was Oct 3rd, so the earlier the better the respond. Columbia however did not get back to me as yet and I will not be waiting. Fordham just open the application late September and said that the application is due Oct 3rd early admission. Since I got accepted to NYU i'm over the other schools.

My reach schools are CSULB and UCLA. Man is CSULB competitive! Safety schools are CSUDH, CSUF and CSUN. Anyone else applying to UCLA? Anyone re-applying there?

CSU LB is more competitive than San Diego State?
