All right, I see a lot of guests perusing the old UCLA threads so i'm creating this updated version for all you to visit and share on :)

This is my first year applying to UCLA after applying to other programs in the past (CSULB, CSULA, CSUDH and USC) .

I'm sharing my stats and I hope you all will too!

I would like to apply to the individuals, families and groups concentration with a specialization in mental health care.

My stats include:

Undergraduate degree in Sociology, emphasis in Law and Society

- Reading volunteer for 6 months

- Volunteer case management intern for 6 months at the Downtown Women's Center (chronically homeless, dual-diagnosed women).

- Volunteer for survivors of DV (child care and preventative work mostly) for about 6 months.

- 2 years working at a boys group home for youth on probation.

- 2 years as a play specialist servicing children with developmental delays, teaching them play and social skills (recently promoted to              mentor).

- 1 year working one on one with students with developmental delays in the school setting as an instructional assistant.

My GPA is slightly below a 3.0, therefore, I am taking the GRE and am definitely not losing hope!

I am putting my together my statements of purpose right now and it's suuuch a drag.

What type of experience do you have? Remember each program is different. You're application is looked at as a whole. Though as a general rule, they do want to see promise in the social work field.

I am also applying to UCLA for the fall

I'm an undergrad at Santa Clara with a 3.5 GPA (as of end of junior year)

Psychology major, sociology and Spanish minors

4 months experience working as group facilitator for 9 week job search mentorship program for disadvantaged women

Nanny for 9 months, worked extensively on homework and improving reading with child

5 months experience as program intern for nonprofit that assists disadvantaged women with career services (turned into group facilitator position)

Camp counselor for 5 year olds for one summer at day camp

Social media/outreach volunteer at mental health agency

Intern at local nonprofit in Buenos Aires while studying abroad there for a semester.  Set up art workshops in public children's hospitals and assisted families in times of crisis

4 months experience as volunteer at non profit that assists people with diagnosed psych. disorders with career services and finding work

Nervous about my experience being related enough! And coming right out of undergrad.

Don't be nervous! It sounds like you have some really varied experience that'll definitely be in your favor, good luck!

Are you all applying for fellowships? I want to be lazy and take the extra month until the Jan 15 deadline, but it's silly to pass up free money so I'm trying to hustle and submit tomorrow.

Also why are the Fall 2015 MSW forums so quiet? Where are all our potential cohorts??

I agree! It's awfully quiet this application cycle. I assume we won't hear from the rest as the deadlines near, that's when most apply.

I agree, i'm also lazy. I also don't know how to apply? Is it straight through the grad application system online? or is there a separate application?

The fellowship app is part of the grad application system. If you are applying for one of the diversity fellowships, a supplemental section will appear once you select the fellowship(s) you want to be considered for.

"For all of the above awards submit the Fellowship Application for Entering Graduate Students directly to your prospective department by December 15 or by the department's deadline for admissions. Consult your department for exceptions."

I assumed we could print, fill out, and upload the form, but now I don't see that option. Do we actually have to mail it in? O_O

This is the response I got when I emailed them:

The fellowship application is within the admissions application (through UCLA Graduate Division). You will check the box for the Graduate Opportunity Fellowship and then follow the subsequent instructions to upload a statement, etc.

Thank you,

Thank you! I also just saw this on a different page: Please Note: You do not need to complete this form if you applied for graduate admissions online and completed the fellowship section.

Delirious panic mode makes me delirious and panicked.

Next problem: I didn't order my transcripts because the other school I applied to (Berkeley) only required we upload the unofficial ones and submit the official ones IF we're accepted (which is the wise and budget-friendly thing to do), but alas UCLA was not so kind now I have to pay a visit to my undergrad, get my transcript and mail it in (it just has to be post-marked by the 15th right??)

Yes, so long as its postmarked you should be fine.

I need help guys! I'm calculating my last 90 quarter units, however I transferred from a CC on a semester system. I only completed 80 units during my junior and senior year, so i'm trying to count back but that leaves me midway into my semester at my CC. SO, do i count the entire semester? That means i'll be calculating 103 units. I hope that makes sense :/ Thanks guys!

Yay for UCLA! Im applying to CSUs too (Fullerton, LA, Long Beach), but really want to attend UCLA. I hope I have a shot!

Undergrad: UCLA, Upper Div GPA of 3.31

Work: aside from retail, I've worked for a sheriff's office for over three years, was a English/Math tutor, and now work at a civil litigation law firm

Volunteer: I've volunteered for big brothers big sisters for about two years, volunteered as an ESL tutor for 6-9 months, and was a Peace Corps Volunteer for a yr teaching literacy (I left my service a yr early unfortunately)

I have no direct social work experience, yet have worked with at-risk youth and law enforcement, so I hope my experience helps me since I know my GPA is so-so for UCLA. I'm late in the game and didn't apply for fellowships, yet I'm for sure applying for calswec when the time comes!

Best of luck all :)

How exciting!! I just submitted my application! A little late....BUT all is well :) I am a little scared about hearing back from any school...so many are competitive! I have a 3.3 GPA with a B.A. in Women and Gender Studies. I was a memeber of Chi Omega Sorority and the womens honor society. I worked as a research assitant at our psychology department, an intern at the womens center, a vounteer for our womens activist committee, a volunteer for Make-A-Wish, Big Brothers Big Sisters volunteer, and volunteer educator at Irish Feminist Network while studying abroad! After graduation, I have worked as a junior case manager with troubled female adolescents, a case manager for a rehabilitation center, a case manager for troubled youth, and FINALLY, I currently work as an advocate for the State of New York Protection and Advocacy System for the disabled, representative payee reviewer for Social Security Administration throughout the State of New York (part-time), site-manager for Big Brothers Big Sisters (part-time), and I volunteer as a staff member for Make-A-Wish Foundation! I am also in the process of publication  “A Guide for Tranisition and Assistive Technology into Vocational Rehabilitation”! I am hoping I have a chance of being admitted and hearing back soon :)

Does anybody know when UCLA usually lets people know if they have been admitted? I applied for the December 15 deadline and I heard that when you get in they only let you take two weeks to decide if you want their program ahh....

From what I have read, UCLA waits for all applicants to apply before looking at all because they have such a low acceptance rate. This is terrifying!!!! i have heard that only about 100 people are accepted out of like 3,000...if this is true....may all of the God's in the world have our best in mind :) The wait is killing me.

I highly doubt UCLA gets 3,000 applications for their social work program alone...I think at the very most, UCLA would have received around 500 this year, given how it is stated on their website and other sources that they receive around 400 applications.

EEP I wonder when UCLA will start sending out notifications. Anyone been notified of anything yet? I'm extremely nervous because I am still attempting to add the statistics class needed :/

I have tried to get a hold of them so many times. NOTHING. I have no idea if my transcripts made it! I wonder when they even make decisions? I have heard nothing since applying :(

Historically, it seems March is when some are notified.
