Dazrehs
Hello! I would greatly appreciate if you could tell whether I have good chances for the MS in Actuarial Science program in Columbia. Here is my profile:Degree: BA in Econ senior year, History minorCGPA: 3.74/4.00IELTS: 7.5 (taking another test in November)GRE: 162 Quant, 158 Verbal, 4 AWAMath background: Calc I, taking Calc II and Linear Algebra, planning to take Calc III and ProbabilityI have contacted Admissions Office: they do not have official data on acceptance rate and the majority of admitted students score 160+ on GRE Quant part. I am not sure whether I can believe statistics provided here. One of my professors told that I might have good chances because the program is quite pricey and not many people apply. Is this true?P.S. I am aware that one can become an actuary without a degree, but I would rather have a degree, especially from such university.
StatsG0d
I think you'd be competitive regardless of whether many people apply or not, but I doubt that any masters at Columbia will be non-competitive even if the program is expensive. You might as well take a shot at applying. The marginal benefit far exceeds the marginal cost (of applying).
