SIPA 2015

Recommended Posts

Hello there! (Long time lurker, first post)

Anyone here applying for the Early Notification deadline? It is tomorrow.

Even though the Adcom guys have said that there is advantage or disadvantage given to the early applicants except the early decision, is that really true?

I just submitted my application for Fall 2015 Early Action. Would you mind elaborating on your conversation with the adcom guys on advantages and disadvantages? I didn't even think about asking;  I just knew that it was my first choice so I figured, why not save $$$ and time in Jan if the stars align? (crosses fingers  )

I have applied early too.

They have mentioned it in their blog posts. But I'm a little unsure. If I look at it logically, many people who have applied early are the ones who have strong applications and have managed to organize everything early. In my head, it sounds more competitive!

But since they have been looking at applications for so long, it may not be a relative selection from the smaller pool, but just strong applicants who would have gotten in irrespective of which deadline they applied to.

As you can see, my thought process is quite confused. Can anybody give insight to how the early notification works?

Hi Patrick,

I don't know that they give out scholarship money with preference for early applicants, but I have two thoughts about the situation:

1) Perhaps you'd have a slightly higher chance of receiving fellowship funding as an early applicant because there are more fellowship funds available at the beginning of the cycle

or

2) Perhaps you stand less of a chance of receiving fellowship aid applying as an early applicant since the school is in less of a "desperate" state that early in the acceptance process. They know that you are very interested in their school and thus have less motivation to woo you to their program.

These are just intuitive (opposing) thoughts but I wanted to share the two lines of thinking to contribute and open up discussion. I hope I didn't increase any anxiety. (Choose to believe in #1!)

Thanks Kaneisha. The only way I can go to SIPA is if they give me a generous scholarship and I get an local scholarship here in India so I'm not holding my breath. From what I've seen trawling these boards, the best most people can expect is $15,000 a year.

Greetings Everyone!

I just received an acceptance for the MPA-DP Program, I have applied by the "standard" deadline. I have not received any funding information in the acceptance letter though. Anyone has any info regarding it? Does the financial aid info usually comes in the acceptance letter or in a different letter?

Thanks in advance for your feedback, good luck to everyone else! It seems that the acceptance week has begun!!

Cheers!

Edit: I correct myself, the excitement of the acceptance made me overlook the following statement on the acceptance letter: "In a few weeks you will receive specific information on the cost of attendance and possible sources of financial aid. "

Seems that we have some more time in the waiting game!!!!!

In with a $70,000 scholarship over two years! The funding notification came as a second status update.

Congrats to all accepted! @Akueldo was this update posted at the same time or did you get a second email about it? Nothing in my letter about it and the accepted student site says under "Resources" that fellowships would be mentioned in the acceptance letter :/

Got in! No info on funding though.

Edited:

The Resources page for admitted students says that funding info would have been included in the admission letter.

So... hmm...
