How do i get into grad school?!

Recommended Posts

This is my second semester applying for graduate programs and I've already been rejected from UTD and College of St. Rose. I'm still waiting on three more schools (UCF, Nazareth, and St. Johns++), which I am hoping one of them will turn into an acceptance! (crosses fingers and toes). I've taken the GRE three times already and my highest scores were 150v 142Q and 4.0AW. I am also currently looking into a second job as a speech aide. I don't know what else to do? before I become discouraged I want to get accepted! I'm thinking of applying to some private schools in California and more schools out of California.

Hello,

I am still quite brand new to this forum.

I will start applying for schools Fall 2015.

Your stats are somewhat similar to mine, I think you should apply to less compeititive schools.

Don't give up though, you dont know youre not going to get accepted by these other schools because UTD & College of St. Rose rejected you.

:)

Hi i'm not sure where you are from but I don't recommend applying to California unless you are looking to get in state tuition/have family connections here that you need to stay local for.  If you are not from California know that the statistics of getting into school in California are very low.  About the 10% range on average.  Some schools get 500 appications for 30 spots.

If you live out of state apply to other schools with better odds of getting in.  It seems like in California you need to have some kind of connection to their program or have a Professor that writes your letter of rec or know someone at that school.

I don't want to discourage you but California is crazy competitive.  Other states may be a bit more relaxed!  Good luck!

California schools are competitive and they tend to take their own post-bacc students.  I'm from CA and only applied to one CA school because I simply didn't have the GRE and GPA to be competitive.  The private schools (Chapman, Redlands, UOP, and Loma Linda) aren't any less competitive.  I'd stay away from these schools.  200-500 applicants for 15-20 spots.  While I understand optimism is key in any application process, it's important to be realistic.  Like the previous poster said, I don't want to discourage you from applying to CA schools but be aware of the competitiveness. Good luck!  I hope you get accepted this time around!  :-)

I can tell you this much, SJU is VERY competitive, I go there for ungrad and I've been told that they barely accept anyone from SJU undergrad into their grad programs, these schools only have room for a limited amount of students, my GPA is a 3.7 and I don't even think I can get accepted. I'm taking my GRE tomorrow, and have yet to study! Ugh, hopefully we can all get accepted, but I would recommend looking into schools that are not so competitive and maybe go over your application, maybe you can strengthen your personal essays, maybe you need to ask different professors for your LR, take those into consideration when applying to other schools!

I'm a first year graduate student. My best advice is to branch out and apply to many different programs. East coast programs and California programs are competitive. You need to be willing to go anywhere and apply everywhere. Best of luck!

I just want to let you know that I got in to CSULB even with a low quant score on my GRE (144), and 154. I also did not attend CSULB for my undergrad. They don't accept letters of recommendation either. GPA was 3.7. So there is a chance! A small chance true, but it can't hurt to apply. I got into the special cohurt so that may have made a difference
