Sending 1 score instead of 3?

Hi everyone. First time posting here. I need some advice on which scores to send. I've taken the GRE 3 times now. Even after studying and doing much better on practice tests, I still haven't improved much on the real exam (but that's besides the point).

The 3rd time I took the GRE both my scores were slightly better than the previous two times so I was happy that I didn't have to at least send all 3 scores. I heard from professors that it's not great to send multiple scores if they're similar. However, after receiving the essay score, I could not believe my eyes. I did the worst out of the 3 times, and it was a very low score. I still don't understand how that happened, as I thought I did well on it. I had a 4.5 last time, and let's just say I'm too embarrassed to even say how much lower it was on this last exam.

Anyway, would it be better to send all 3 scores if they're not very far apart because of the low essay score? At least a few of the schools I'm applying to require the essay score. Thank you!
