I am pretty picky, as I have some full time work lined up in case I don't get into a PhD also, which may end up being preferable to a masters. So I'm looking for a program that does not have a PhD program attached to the school (so that I'm more likely to be funded, I have no money) in a fairly metropolitan area. uselesstheory Posted December 16, 2014 Share Posted December 16, 2014 SUNY Buffalo would be a decent fit for your interests, is somewhat city-like, and offers the possibility of funding/scholarships for MA students. However, I'd guess that PhD students receive most funding and most opportunities, given that it is an R1 school. faculty Posted December 16, 2014 Share Posted December 16, 2014 UNC-Charlotte doesn't have an PhD program and is often mentioned on this board as a supportive place with good funding that sends many of its students onto PhD program. Great, well known faculty and they're bringing in younger, up-and-coming people. They are always looking to improve the program and the student to faculty ration is small. Umass Boston has a great MA that tuition waved, most likely paid, and had a strong concentration in medical sociology. It's a relief to have found it and the deadline is March!
