I'm international applicant for painting and I'm really confused.

Does my works need to show the wall and the work, or only the edges?(close up)

And didn't Yale have something about putting some kind of object(ex chair) with your work to show scale?

And what is this video question thing? I'm freaking out. I went back to check some previous posts, and someone had to talk about their most influential artists prepare 60 seconds/ talk 120 seconds. Maybe its because I didn't meet my TOEFL speaking minimum....

They are concerned with scale and tactility so the paintings must show the edge of the work. No, I don't think you should put a chair in the photo. If you are showing a 3-d piece, that should show the surrounding space.

It makes a big difference when you crop the edges of a painting. By seeing the edges you see a better scale and how the piece works.

Not sure where you are getting all of this information about the video and the chair.

They are very straight forward in their guidelines.

The video question is on my application process and that is why I looked it up.

This person had to do a video question too.

Thank you for your answers and good luck

Was your video question also about the most influential artist?

I'm international but for some reason it doesn't show up on my application.

I haven't done it yet :(

Maybe I should send an email to Yale and ask about it.

I did, too. I am freaking out. I was uploading thinking it was 1 day early when...POOF. I'm not sure what to do now. In shock. Spent 1 year prepping for Yale. Now nothing.

I thought the same thing. I actually asked about this at the open house because the language felt ambiguous, and I was told that it was before the end of the day today. I sent the general admissions email a note to clarify, but I'm going to call them tomorrow.

seems like the system locked me out as well.. this is really upsetting because two days ago I called the admissions office and the lady REASSURED ME that the deadline was January 7th at night... and I asked her if that meant if I had THE DAY of the 7th. She confirmed with me that i had THE DAY OF THE 7TH to turn everything in.
She even laughed with me over the phone saying how this was a common question they were receiving and that they have to change the language for the next year!

Everybody thinks it's 11:59pm EST January 7th (see how clear this would be?), and it feels like they intend the deadline to be this as well.

I think there might be enough demand today for them to reopen the system. If not, loss for them.

Good luck everyone!

No, but the school that was the pinnacle for me. I can deal with getting rejected, but not being apple to even apply would be the worst. All other schools portfolios are derivative of the one i prepared specifically for Yale.

I share this sentiment too. Maybe it's everyone's first time around applying. It's my second time (I didn't want to go to the schools I got into the first time around and glad I didn't go!) and I had everything submitted to most schools close to a month ago to avoid exactly this. I wouldn't even chance it.

Understandable. I created a mental deadline which was January 1st and stuck to it. I told recommenders that this was the deadline as well. Everyone has different circumstances, which I believe. Its just interesting to see how many people dream of going to this school but missed the deadline if it were not for the extention.
