Hey! I've been lurking for a while, waiting to see if anyone mentioned Af-Am or African Studies applications going out for Fall 2015 cohorts. I didn't see any, so I decided to just start one. Where did you apply? Have you heard anything yet?

Here's my list:

  1. Brown University - Africana Studies
  2. University of Maryland: College Park - American Studies
  3. UPenn - Africana Studies
  4. Northwestern University - African American Studies

Rejected at Berkeley :-/ This one sucks a little. And I'm assuming I didn't get Penn because they told me decisions will be made in the next two weeks and I have not been invited for an interview. Still all good considering UT came through and it's a great fit.

I've applied to Harvard and Yale for African-American Studies, and am anxiously awaiting some news. I've been waiting for this thread for a long time :)

While my other 6 applications are literature/language-oriented, I'm still taking Af-Am Studies to the next level. :)

I've applied to English at UPenn and NYU, Comparative Literature (English, French, Amharic Literatures) at Cornell, and Modern Thought and Literature at Stanford. 2 rejections out of a total of 8 schools, and no acceptances. Not feeling too hot at the moment.

You?

I just wanted to say hello to a fellow IRT'er!  I did my application season two years ago, though.  Right now I'm at UCLA, English.

What literature/language programs are you applying to bgt28?

Does anyone know when we should expect to hear from places like Harvard and Yale? This needs to end soon.

I don't think until early March unfortunately and you're so right that this needs to end. I had a dream (nightmare?) about UCSD last night

Also I'm wondering when Cornell and Northwestern are going to reach out. I've sent generic e-mails to both departments about when they were going to update applicants but no reply. I did the same for Brown as well  (on the same day the acceptances on the results board went up) and the response was that no information could be given out at this time.

New to this thread! But I thought I'd join in on the waiting game. I applied to PhD programs in Political Science (one Combined PhD program in Poli Sci and AfAm).

Interests are in political philosophy, African American political philosophy in particular, especially 19th and 20th century AfAm democratic intellectuals (Du Bois, Douglass, David Walker, Baldwin, King, etc).

Hopefully this process will be over soon. The waiting stinks.
