Did anyone else applying to Ford get a fellowship interview? i got the below email last week, and then had a 20 minute interview with a student a few days later.

"Dear ____,

As part of our fellowship review process, we would like to schedule a brief conversation for you with one of our current students. This should take no more than 15 to 20 minutes.  No preparation is required on your part, this is just to get to know you a little bit better than what can be gathered on paper.  We are hoping to complete the calls this week.  Here is a link to a google doc that lists the available times for interviews..."

what is this about? anyone have any idea?

I got the same e-mail and searched the Grad Cafe forum to see what I could find.

In couple of people had the interview and that were interviewed disclosed that they received full tuition fellowships plus stipend.

I'm hopeful that's the case for those of us receiving that e-mail this year!  Fingers crossed.

Oh my gosh, you guys are making me INCREDIBLY anxious. I got the email/did the interview as well. I am still unclear on what that interview really means! I treated as an informal interview, kind of like a conversation (even though, let's be real, it's about the C.R.E.A.M.).

Since they told us the interview would take no preparation and they were just looking to 'get to know' the applicants, I thought hey, I shouldn't be too stressed out?j The student that interviewed me was super nice and I had a good time talking to him.

Man, if I come out of this with a full tuition fellowship and a stipend to Michigan. . .that would be amazing. I'll try to stay realistic about this, though, as I anxiously await some news in early March.

Ok, keeping fingers crossed.

A little helpful tidbit: I'm friends with a current Ford student who's friends with student on the interview panel, and according to this person, the interviews were for "exceptional candidates who are being considered for fellowships." So, that's good news for us methinks! Don't wanna get ahead of ourselves, obviously...

Ahhhh, the wait is killing me! I keep checking my email a thousand times a day (even on weekends, which is just stupid). I'm so anxious to hear!  :o Patience is the name of the game.

Good luck everyone!

In without funding. I'm kinda surprised, I didn't really expect to get in. I don't think I will attend. It will probably be a choice between IU and LBJ, but hey, I'm excited that I got in!

Hello All,

I am in too!

"The Admissions Committee was extremely impressed with your application and we are pleased to offer you a half tuition fellowship for each of your four semesters of full-time study, at the Ford School of Public Policy. "

I am an international student and cannot afford to pay the rest of the fees. So, is there a chance that as results of other MPP program trickle out, this might be converted to a full fellowship? Any idea people?

If I were you I would contact the fellowship coordinator and ask her. I've also heard of people leveraging their awards at schools to ask for larger awards from other schools, so if you received more funding elsewhere, maybe try that as well. I think most if not all of the people who did not receive any funding at all will also be looking for funding, so I don't know if you have any more or less of a chance than others.

I got in as well with funding. $20,000 for the two years, $5,000 a year. also they match my AmeriCorps award of $5,000.

So is it a good idea to contact the fanicial aid department and try to leverage more funding. I feel like this is unethical. :/ I got into Goldmans School as well with less funding but its close to home. It would make my desicion a lot easier is if Ford gave me full funding.

Hi guys! I'll be emailing Ford tomorrow to turn down my offer, so hopefully that money can get kicked back to one of you guys and one of the wait listed candidates can get a shot at Ford.

Good luck to you all!

It's not unethical to ask. However I think normally when people try to get more funding, they usually use a larger offer at another school to justify a more competitive offer from the school they really want to go to.
