Is It OK to apply to more than one program in the same school?

Has anyone here applied to more than one program in the same school?

 

I was hoping to apply a Ph.D program and a M.A. program for backup in the same college.

If you can afford it, there's no problem with doing that.

Though some programs automatically consider you for the MA if you do not get in for the PhD, or have an option for you to indicate that you want to be considered for the MA. You might want to check whether your school does that before paying double fees.

Some schools state that you can't apply for different degrees within the same program, some, as other posts have mentioned, consider for the MA if it's a PhD application, and some might even indicate on the application whether or not you want to be considered for the MA if you are applying for the PhD. One of my professors told me that if this is what I was interested in to apply for the PhD and indicate that I would like to be considered for the MA as well, if it were possible/not already an option on the application. Just be sure to check first! Good luck!

I did this, and the program figured out pretty quickly that I wanted the PhD and was applying to the MPH as a backup.
