thegnuguy
I'm leaning toward getting my MA in Journalism at Stanford in the fall of 2015. Are you?
pretensions
It's one of my top choices, as well! I attended the open house last week and liked what I saw. Struggling a lot with making the final decision, though—deciding between Medill NW, Stanford, and Columbia. I really do like Stanford, but am wondering if the program is too small or not nationally recognized enough in the journalism field compared to places like Medill and Columbia. Do you have any thoughts?
thegnuguy
Well, I only applied to Stanford because data journalism is my thing. I'm headed out for a visit in 2 weeks so I'll know more then. I think all three choices are solid, but for me, I Stanford is the clear choice. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel like NW and Columbia have larger classes. All amazing. Can't go wrong. If you're interested in data journalism, I think Stanford is definitely the place for you! And you're right, NW and Columbia both have larger classes as far as I know. I think the small size of Stanford's program will be great for forming more personal connections with the professors—in fact, I believe each student is assigned a faculty member "mentor" (I heard Dan Nguyen is terrific as a mentor for data journalists, if you want to get a chance to speak more with him when you visit). Thanks for your thoughts! Best of luck to you, whatever you decide!
thegnuguy
Absolutely! I've been in contact with Dan and I'm going to have lunch with him on my visit! haha I can't wait to get out there and just see everything. =D Any progress on your decision? grindian
I've been accepted as well, but without any funding. Did you guys/gals get any funding?
pretensions
I've been accepted as well, but without any funding. Did you guys/gals get any funding? Hi grindian! I was offered a $25,000 tuition fellowship. Do you mind if I ask if you're considering other programs, and if so, what factors you're considering? Are you leaning towards Stanford at the moment? I'm still very undecided, myself, haha.
