No More Sending Scores to Schools for Free?

Hi all,

 

I just got an email from ETS, the company that puts on the GRE, and while I might be mistaken, my interpretation was that starting July 2016 they will no longer allow you to send scores to schools for free on the day of the test. Here's the email. Did anyone else get this? Is my interpretation of this wrong? If not, I'm honestly furious. We pay literally hundreds of dollars for this test, and it's ridiculous enough that we have to pay extra to send scores to schools (you know, the entire POINT of the test) but at least being able to send them for free day of was a slight consolation. This is outrageous. I'm so frustrated at how they keep pumping money out of us just for wanting to get an education. 

 

Thoughts? Concerns?

I think you're misinterpreting the email. That's talking about something called the Personal Potential Index.

Actually, when I took the computer based test, they did allow me to see the (unofficial) verbal and quantitative scores before I sent the free reports. I didn't know my writing score.

I could have sworn I had to make the decision prior to seeing the unofficial scores (I also did the computer test). But, I can't say my brain was working that well at the end of the examination.

No you had to accept the test as valid. You have the ability to invalidate the test so the score doesn't get attached to your list of scores (but with score select this doesn't matter and there is no reason to not accept the test as valid). Then you are able to send the free score reports after they show you your scores.

 

I took it last fall and saw my scores before doing the search for each school to send my results to.

At the end of the test, you will be given the option to report or cancel your scores. If you choose to report your scores, those scores will become a part of reportable history and cannot be canceled. Although you have the option to cancel your scores, consider very carefully before doing so because the score reporting choices available with the ScoreSelect® option allow you to report only the scores that you feel reflect your personal best. Your scores will be reported to GRE score recipients only at your request. If you choose  to report your scores, you will be able to view your unofficial Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning scores at the test center. Because of the essay scoring process, you will not be able to view your Analytical Writing scores at the time you test.

 

As for OP, as others mentioned that is for the PPI which is another score they calculate that isn't your V/Q/A scores.

They offered a service called PPI. No one uses it so they are discontinuing it. Everything else from ETS proceeds as normal.
