GRE Score needed for USC Business Analytics Masters Program

I currently work in USC athletics as an Asst. Director of Baseball Operations. I am interested in applying to the Business Analytics program in the Marshall School of Business.

I did my undergrad in Business Administration from the Marshall School of Business and graduated with a 3.3 cumulative GPA.  I have yet to take the GRE mostly out of fear of standardized tests. The application deadline ins May 15. Would it be worth it for me to try to take it on Tuesday and apply to the program?

Any advice is much appreciated!

Hi apoorvga,

Is this the last application deadline for the start of Classes in the Fall, 2015? If it is and you only have 1 week to prepare for the GRE, then you might be better off putting in MORE study time and applying for Round 1 or Round 2 this coming Fall/Winter for the Fall, 2016.

I bring this up because you would not only have to take the GRE, but also put together the entire application while you're studying and doing everything else that you do during a typical week. Well-constructed Grad School applications take far more time to put together than you have here (sometimes they take MONTHS to put together). Considering your 'concerns' about standardized tests in general, I think that you need to invest far more time into the overall process than just 1 week.

GRE masters aren't born, they're made,

Rich

I don't know what kind of score you need. If you can finish an application, I don't see why not. You can check how late you can take the GRE, maybe even later than that. I'm taking it next week. I was a math major so that part's easy for me, but I put off preparing for a while because I was nervous about the verbal part. I took a few practice tests and it turned out to be way easier than I thought. I'm not too worried about the essays.

You can choose which scores to report so even if your score is awful, it can't hurt unless the $195 is burdensome to you. It used to be the case that the ETS would report all scores, so there was more pressure.

Appreciate the comments. I studied for a few weeks a couple of months ago but got discouraged. I may end up taking it just to get a feel for the exam even if I end up deferring my application.

I think you would risk being late. It takes 4 to 5 weeks for ETS to report your grades and send them you each institution. So even if you get your transcripts and recommenders on time, your GRE scores would probably be late.( although who knows? heard of people that completed application, requested an extension for the GRE scores to arrive and still got admission...)

If you could apply for spring 2016 would be a safer bet.

As for test prep, it hugely depends on how you are on each section. I spent 2 years without doing math(not composing essays) and I had to work a bit on prep. Some people take 1 week and do good because they are fresh.
