virtua
Hi, I am going to apply for F-1 visa and I want to travel with one of my relatives. Does anyone know what kind of visa is need for my brother/sister or other relative to enter the US? And is a separate application (for my relative) needed for that? shinigamiasuka
My parents are coming with me with B1 tourist visas. We have separate DS-160 forms i.e. I didn't add them as travel companions on mine.
TakeruK
They should apply for Tourist visa statuses. You can (and should) check with your school's international office or other authorities since most of us here on GradCafe are not going to be experts, but we can provide advice/help based on our experiences. What if I add my relative as travel companion? In that case my relative wont need a separate ds-160?
shinigamiasuka
I wasn't quite sure of that, that's why I didn't. It's like, I'm on F1, so any "travel companion" would likely be taken as F2 (dependents), which my parents are not. I'm really not sure you see, so to avoid risking anything going wrong, I told my dad to do a separate DS-160 for himself and mum.

Yeah, I plan to do the same thing
Crafter
I also think that travel companions would be F-2. If you are traveling with relatives that will not stay with you, they need a separate B2 visa.
virtua
Btw, guys, I never applied for any visa, so I don`t know these things, so here is my question: is some kind of proof of sufficient fund required for B-2 visa? I mean, some bank receipt and etc?
shinigamiasuka
Shouldn't it be a B1 (business and/or tourist) visa? B2 is a medical check-up visa IIRC. You should show stuff like bank statements, income/salary statements and proof of a stable job and/or other source of income, and some property if possible. Crafter
Usually a bank statement is necessary for tourist visas, as proof of funding of your travel might be required during your interview. A letter from your employer and a property title (like a house or something) is useful, so you can show that you have strong ties to your country and are not intending to travel as a tourist and then stay illegally. I must say that, in my experience, it is advisable to have as much as possible in terms of documents to prove that you will not stay illegaly (better have more than necessary than needing a document and not bringing it over to the interview). Although, sometimes the consul will not even look at the documents before coming to a decision. But it is best to be prepared. Crafter
virtua
Bussiness/Tourism (temprorary visitor) (B1/B2) Tourism/Medical treatment (B2) Guys, which one from the following my brother should choose?
Crafter
Why doesn't he apply for a B1/B2? That is what most people I know have as tourists. But I am not an immigration expert and I am talking from my own experience. If you really need advise it is best to contact an immigration lawyer.
