Difference between masters programme and fellowship programme

In the biomedical sciences, for example (and not sure if this is true for other fields) a Masters program will confer you an academic degree. A Fellowship is more a practical training that does not lead to an academic title. Fellowships also vary a lot in length, while Masters programs in the US are about 2 years long.

A masters degree prepares graduates continuing education involving research and further development opportunities. A number of programs are available to develop theoretical as well as practical expertise.

Fellowship is a practical training into the training program. This can be done soon after completing the specialty training in the field of medicine. During fellowship the candidate falls under the physician employment and can act as attending or consultant physician.
