Can I apply for a masters' if I already have one? (USA/Canada)

Not sure which sub-forum to post this, so posting here....

I am planning to apply for another Masters' degree in CS in USA or Canada.

But, the thing is I already have one masters' degree. Well, the reason I want to apply for another Masters' degree is because the one I have now is pretty...useless. I didn't learn any advanced courses like AI, Machine Learning, Distributed Systems, HCI, etc etc.

Anyway, the list of reasons is very long so I will just skip it.

I worked for two years after my graduation and now I feel I want to go back to school to actually LEARN these CS courses.

I heard that if you already have a Masters' degree, you cannot apply to universities in USA or Canada? So, I wanted to know if this was true?

If yes, how can I find which universities will allow me to apply? I could go to each school website and look, but if someone already has a list, that would be very helpful.

I'm from Canada, and I'm pretty sure you can. I know quite a few people with dual Masters (One of the mentors I worked with had 3-4, and purposely chose to not pursue a PhD even though he could've received one).

If there's no restrictions on any of the websites of the schools you're interested in pursuing (one where it says DO NOT apply if you have a Masters), then you should be okay to do so. I guess the only thing you want to be wary of is how you will describe your coursework related to your first Masters.

Alternatively, perhaps you can pursue a Masters that is similar but slightly different in content?

False. I was admitted to 7 programs and I already have a Master. However, my previous master was IR and Intl Economics and the new one is going to be Statistics.

You can definitely hold multiple masters. The reasons why you hear people comment on it is that typically their is minimum, or even no, funding for a masters student. Looking at an additional $60,000 in debt is not usually a great idea. So US grad prospects tend to frown upon masters in general and jump into a PhD - if they have the credentials. However, you can have as many masters as you really want. The choice is yours.

Some schools won't consider you if you already have a Master's or Ph.D. I suspect some other schools may officially consider you but in reality it'd be a long shot. Some schools will be happy to take your money though.
