I've checked the site multiple times, but have not found mention of a writing sample listed as an outright requirement...If you're not sure, you could contact 1. the department administrator, or 2. the director of graduate students. If it's not listed as a requirement on the webpage or online application, then I would guess it is not necessary (there are many programs which don't want writing samples).
