Reasonably Priced Online MSW Programs

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm graduating with a degree in Human Development & Family Studies in Spring 2017, and am looking to enroll in an MSW program in the fall. I will be graduating with about 200ish hours of field experience as part of my degree program, but I doubt this will qualify me for advanced standing because it's a BS and not a BSW. My cumulative GPA is a bit on the low side at 2.75 because I had a rough start due to my chronic health condition, but I have improved my grades every semester I have been here. I still have two more semesters (plus summer and J-term classes) before I graduate. I didn't think I had what it takes for graduate school because of my low GPA, but my advisor has been encouraging me to apply, so I've started looking. My main career interest is in medical social work.

I am married and own a house in Providence, RI, and I cannot move for graduate school. I also can't afford to pay out-of-pocket, so I need something reasonably priced and/or with a decent financial aid package. Rhode Island College is my first choice because it's close to home and has a good reputation around here, but I'm also looking at Salem State University (the 3-year Saturday program), Simmons College (a bit on the pricey side but an acquaintance told me they give good aid), and other schools in the Boston area. I would prefer an in-person program that would do my field placements in Providence, but I'm also willing to consider online programs. However, I have no clue where to start because I know nothing about online schools. Does anyone know of decent, reasonably priced online programs that would give me good local field placements? A health/medical concentration would be a plus. Also, are there any Boston-area schools that I may have overlooked? BU and BC are way too expensive.

You're right I do not think any MSW Advance Standing will take you without a BSW. :(

Although I did not apply to this school, a couple of my cohort mates did- they haven't heard back though http://socialwork.wnmu.edu/msw/. Their standards are not so competitive, and from the looks of it no campus visits are required. Another school I have seen that is fully online is http://www.campbellsville.edu/msw,

Unfortunately I do not know of anyone who has actually attended either program.

Edinboro!

It's in PA.  They accept students from all over the country, but unfortunately don't help very much with finding internships, which can be frustrating.  But otherwise my experience has been great and it's one of the most affordable programs I could find.

I'm graduating from their MSW program this August!  So feel free to ask me if you have questions :)
