  1. Hi, I have got TA from Mississippi State university and RA from university of north Carolina, Charlotte for PhD in electrical engineering. But not sure where to go. The national rankings of schools are as- Grad engineering- MSU 94, UNCC 127, but in grad electrical engineering MSU 89, UNCC 76. Apart from this Mississippi State is a famous and big school in the south but it is a rural college town. On the other hand Charlotte is a booming city and in my field it is a hub for the big companies and a lot of things to do. Still I am not sure. Phd is a long time and help me make a decision. Personally i feel UNCC got some advantages over MSU.
  2. Actually I am targeting mid ranked schools. Thanks for your suggestion though. All three school you mentioned seems a little too good for me. I know I can go for OPT. Just dont want to waste time from Jan 2015 to the start of fall 15,
  3. I am completing my MS (with project option) from an university of Ohio, USA in Fall 2014 with a GPA of 3.84 (may change a little after 6 more hours); with major field in power systems. My undergrad GPA was 2.87 (class top 3.99) from Bangladesh. GRE- V-150, Q-168, A-3.0 TOEFL- 104 (R-29,L-27,S-22,W-26) I need to apply for the spring 2015 semester and I am selecting schools from USNews Grad Engineering ranking. Looking for schools ranked 80 and plus (as I also need funding). I have selected the following-- 1. West Virginia 2. Arlington, Texas 3. South Carolina -- [it's ranked 94; but still guess it would be too good foe me] 4. Clarkson 5. Uo Kentucky 6. Wisconsin, Milwaukee. 7. Marquette Univ. 8. Vermont, Maine 9. Arkansas (Fayetteville ) I know all of these are low ranked schools for PhD, but I'm kinda afraid of Big Schools. Anybody have some other suggestions of any other schools. Please suggest. Thanks a lot in advance.
  4. I talked with my prof about my situation and he advised me to carry on the thesis work. Even a small scale of work would be better he said. SO... let see how things unfold.
  5. Well, thank you guys I am going for project then. And at the same time trying to publish one/two conference papers. Just hope my adviser would not hesitate to give me a good recommendation. .
  6. I am pursuing my MS in Electrical Engineering at a university at OH (not the top ones) and my main goal is to go for PhD. I have completed 18 hrs of courses already, with gpa of ~3.9 and was going for thesis but as I am not getting any assistantship from the department/professor, I have to go through Project (which is not thesis, one just have to submit a paper/report etc.). The reason is - for thesis I have to register for 3 more semesters (I assume) but for project, I can finish it within next semester. The certificate would still be for MS. Will my decision of taking project ignoring thesis hurt my ambition to go for PhD in better schools?
  7. Same problem here, buddy. I am also from a third world country; did my Bachelor in science in ELectrical & Electronic engineering with a gpa of 2.87 out of 4.0. My GRE is good-318 and IELTS-7.5. But here no one is listening to me. no one is giving any sugeestion. I am going to applyt fo the fall 2013 semester. please keep in touch with me.
