  1. congratulations to all that were accepted. I only sent in 3 applications this year, it was sort of last minute, and received 2 interviews. Unfortunately I did not receive an offer. I have pretty decent academic record, especially my last 2 years, have been 2nd or third author on three pubs, and I have lab experience. Though to be honest I am well removed from lab activities. I am currently project coordinator at a CRO, preparing gen tox reports for regulatory agencies and Sponsors. Going back to the lab is not really an option. After my interviews, for neuroscience programs, I realized that I really want this. I was disappointed that I didn't get accepted, that being said I do plan on applying next year. My question is "what can I do to improve my chance for acceptance next year?"
  2. I did have an onsite interview, I think that's what makes it worse. I figured reapplying would be daft but I wanted to get the consensus of the people. And your assumption was rightish, had other interviews haven't an offer yet on those. And I would take one in heartbeat if it meant that I can continue my passion.
  3. I didn't get accepted to the school I wanted. Is it frowned upon to apply the following year?
  4. Has anybody heard back from ASU neuro or Rosalind Franklin BMS?
  5. So after doing the interview weekends, I have sent thank you note to the different interviewers and others that I have met. I try to personalize each one, in hopes that it doesn't look as if I am using a template. Anyway, when they email back it's a really short message. Should I be concerned?
  6. Does anyone have info about ASU neuro? Going out there for an interview next week. Have roughly 7 interviews; 3 at ASU, 2 at Barrows Neuro Institute, and 2 at AU School of Medicine.
  7. He emailed and he's going to call tm so we can figure out the schedule. Still feel like a dick. But it will hopefully pay dividends. The interviews are asu neuroscience a Rosalind Franklin for the same. Asu had multiple dates
  8. A question I hope someone can answer. I replied to an invite a couple days ago and I had the choice between the weekend of Feb. 6 and Feb. 13. I decided on Feb. 13 do to work stuff. However, another school I applied also gave me an invite (today) for the same weekend and it's the only weekend they do it. I emailed the Prof and asked him if I could switch weekends from Feb 13 to Feb 6, so I can go to both places. I told him that I have a conlict in my schedule but I would still make it the original weekend if things couldn't change. Did I do the right thing? I honestly sent the email before I even thought about, I was excited. I just don't want to leave a bad taste in their mouth. Any advice or words of wisdom is welcomed
  9. Does anyone have any info on the ASU and Rutgers neuroscience programs?
  10. Does anyone know of any programs that still have not had their application deadlines pass?
  11. Just a heads up to everyone on this topic, especially people interested in neuroscience, check out Central Michigan University's neuroscience program. It is a very strong program that gets overlooked and it also has later application deadlines.
  12. Undergrad Institution: Mid-Size State School with a pretty good research track Major(s):Neuroscience and psychology Minor(s): GPA in Major: Overall GPA: Position in Class: cum laude Type of Student: white male 2.5 years removed GRE Scores (revised/old version): Q:155 V:152 W:5 Research Experience: 3+ years directed and volunteer research on presymptomatic HD neurotransmitter release and reuptake at home institution that included several presentations (national and local) a couple abstracts and just recently a co-author on a publication. Also was introduced and became efficient in cell and tissue culturing, biological assays, microdialysis, tissue sectioning, stereotaxic surgery, and rodent behavior analysis and animal handling. Aided in the study design and data collection, as well as co-authored, two studies on altruism (psychology). One involving smoking behavior and the other on the differences of between religion and political affiliation on altruism. After graduating and relocating for my job, I have volunteered at the local uni's neuroscience program. The first project I worked on involved using CORT to stimulate the physiological responses involved with stress and see if forced exercise would ameliorate the effects that CORT has on BDNF. Unfortunately this project didn't go anywhere. After months of work the grad student kinda flaked. The samples are still in the freezer. The next project involving the differential effects on the sensitization of amphetamine with concurrent exposure to restraint stress in rats. Results from this research were presented at local conferences. Was supposed to go to D.C. and present it at the national conference. But couldn't make it out there. Possible future publication after ELIZA assays are performed. Plus, there is interest from other labs on the effectiveness of our variable restraint paradigm that we instituted for this project. Awards/Honors/Recognitions: National S.M.A.R.T. grant (2009-2011), Dean's list and what not Pertinent Activities or Jobs: Currently a report coordinator at a major CRO in the midwest. Started off as research assistant. Work with Study directors, PI's, scientist's, and other personal in producing the final report that will ultimately be going to the FDA or similar entities. Any Miscellaneous Accomplishments that Might Help: play an ok guitar, like to sleep Special Bonus Points: strong LoR for prof from three different institutions. Former undergrad adviser co-director of the neuroscience program Any Other Info That Shows Up On Your App and Might Matter: I'm a little older than must people appying Applying to Where: Rutgers-CMBN ASU-Neuro Rosalind- Biomedical Wright state- neuro prob others applying was a last minute thing. Got motivated to pursue a grad degree after a colleague of mine finished her Ph.d. a couple months ago. I already know my GRE's are shit but I was hoping my research and work experience might make up for that. Anyway, tell me what you think.
  13. I was wondering if people would share some of their info about some of stats they had when you applied to a neuroscience program. Such as; GPA, GRE, LoR, Personal, and what not. I'm trying to see how I compare. Thanks
