  1. Hello, I am currently trying to update my CV. Does anyone have a recommendation on how to list incomplete graduate degree on CV? My first stint in a master's program didn't work out (did all the necessary coursework, but did not finish and defend the thesis). However, subsequently I did finish another Masters and then PhD. I'm not sure whether to leave this period of failure out of my CV completely or should I list something like "graduate coursework" along with my other degrees. Any other suggestions? Thanks everyone!
  2. Results are out on ResearchNet! Unfortunately, I didn't get it. Good luck to everyone else who applied!
  3. Anyone else waiting for the decision results for the CIHR fellowship? Supposedly the decisions are out July 15, but some years decisions were posted in June... waiting for an email/letter is stressing me out! lol
  4. Annoying the reviewers. You're right, I'm over thinking this and reviewers shouldn't know that I suggested them, even if the editor does use the list. Thanks for your help!
  5. When I was writing my thesis, I would listen to inspirational music like Eye of the Tiger and Rocky theme to get me motivated and focused.
  6. Hi everyone, Have any of you who have submitted multiple manuscripts in the same subject area list the same suggested referees in your cover letters to journals? Is this practice frowned upon or is it okay? I am thinking of recycling my list of suggested reviewers for my next couple of papers, which are in a very specific area and related to my previous research, but I'm unsure if doing so would annoy them. Thanks for your help!
  7. Hi Gradcafe, I recently graduated PhD and put in an application for a postdoctoral fellowship award, which has the decision notification in July. In the meantime, I am moving back to my home town and I would like to find some short-term research jobs there. What is the best approach to finding these types of positions? Online job postings don't really help, as most are out of the scope of my training, non-research oriented, or no listings available at all. Should I email research institutes' generic emails with a brief inquiry letter outlining my intentions and background? Or should I email specific professors/scientists directly? Thanks.
  8. Thanks for your reply! I'm in sciences. I like your suggestion of adding these to my employment section, which is much more appropriate. Thanks!
  9. Hello. Does anyone know how to go about listing multimedia creations (e.g. instructional animations and videos created for a department) and anonymous reports (co-researched and co-wrote a report for an institute, but we were not credited authorship) on the CV? Or should these things be left off of a CV? Thank you for your advice.
  10. Hi Forum! Long-time lurker, first time posting. I finally finished doctoral program and am looking for postdoctoral positions. I've been looking into the CIHR Postdoctoral Fellowship (Feb 2013 application cycle) and I am wondering if anyone familiar with the application process can answer a couple of questions that I have. 1) How competitive is the CIHR Postdoctoral Fellowship? More specifically, do research areas not on the list of "priority" areas have little to no chance of being funded? 2) I am applying to conduct postdoctoral research at the same institution (also foreign, at a US institution) and with the same supervisors that I conducted my PhD research. I think I have a solid justification for why I am proposing to do research at the same institution. However, how frowned upon is this with CIHR? Will this drastically reduce my chances of winning the award even if my other areas are solid? I'm currently getting my application materials ready, but I'm afraid that my chances are low (due to non-priority area research proposal and same/foreign institution) and I don't want to burden my supervisors with a lot of paperwork ultimately leading to a negative outcome. Thanks for your advice!
