  1. Hey all, I'll be wrapping up my Master's in Journalism at NYU this December and have been kicking around looking for a PhD in the field. However, before I do, I wanted to reach out and make sure it's not superfluous. I enjoy long-form journalism and hope to write for a niche men's interest publication, but I've always been told that I'd make a great professor. Would a PhD put me too much into the teaching category or would it also let me pursue my interests of writing for a magazine or web publication? Thanks in advance!
  2. I did it. I committed! I visited this weekend and after seeing it person, I knew almost immediately that it was right for me. Coupling the beautiful facilities with the endless opportunities in the city, it's undeniably the school for me. I hope to see you guys in the fall!
  3. Does anyone know what a typical class size is for the journalism program? Even a rough estimate would be helpful.
  4. That's what I'm talking about. I'm leaning NYU right now, but I still hope to visit Easter weekend.
  5. I'm literally having the exact same dilemma. I got into NYU for writing and 'Cuse for Broadcast journalism. So really I have to just decide what I want to do with my life because NYU's writing I feel is stronger. However, I feel like Syracuse's broadcast program is better.
  6. Hey guys, just saw this thread! Was accepted for Journalism a while ago. However, I also just got into Syracuse. So it's essentially 'Cuse vs. NYU. NYU has a better name, but it's also quite expensive. At least I still have some time to decide :/. In the meantime, Magazine Writing anyone?
  7. Me too, haha. I get a newsletter from a site I follow every night at 8pm. It took longer than I'd like to admit to expect the e-mail and not get my hopes up.
  8. Hobbies are absolutely whats needed haha! I bought a fixie just to give me something to do (and to ride next year)! In unrelated news, got my third acceptance today. Nothing to see here.
  9. Pitt student here. I have no clue to be honest, but I've been told that Pitt for grad school admissions tends to take its time. hail to pitt!
  10. I wouldn't say its bad to love a choice, so long as you don't obsess over it and see only things at that particular university, you know? let the love come later, after you've heard back from everywhere and you've visited the top choices!
  11. Now that's what I call a reward! I'm dying to get/build a cafe racer or something like that depending on where I go. But I'll probably only be able to buy something for my Jetta instead.
  12. Got my first acceptance today! This thread had me finally calmed down about it all too. But alas, one down.
  13. Anyone feel like a school is messing with them? I haven't received an official decision yet, but hofstra e-mails me yesterday to set up like an official e-mail address and stuff through their online student portal (a website aside from the one you apply on and can still log into to check your application). It was sent from like their computing department I guess. It even began with "Welcome to Hofstra University!" Buuuut....I still haven't received official word on my status yet...so I really don't know what to make of this, I guess it's not a bad thing which is nice?
