  1. I am one of the LSU acceptances! This was my top choice school, as a Louisiana native focusing in Southern Studies! I am absolutely ecstatic, especially after being completely shut out 2 years ago when I applied straight out of undergrad. I took one of the "consultation" partially funded M.A. offers from one of the schools I was rejected from, and spent the last two years focusing and getting ready for round 2. But I was still broken-hearted after what felt like my previous failure. I only applied to 3 schools, and thought that I would get shut out again, and resigned myself to joining an alternative certification program as a back up. Still, I worked hard on my writing sample and personal statement, deciding to not retake the GRE even though my scores were lower than many on this site. I felt conflicted: I thought I was destined for failure but felt I had the talent and desire to succeed. So imagine my surprise when I received this news! I am giddy that my hard work paid off; I have been accepted into my dream school, fully funded with stipend! I just wanted to say to those of you who might not be getting the news that you want to hear; maybe you're thinking of giving up, and maybe that is the right move for you. But I am an example of someone who felt that way, and chose to try again, with great results. I hope you all spend this weekend with the ones you love. I'll be spending it celebrating Mardi Gras with my family! Laissez les bon temps rouler and Geaux Tigers!
  2. Update for those wondering, my prof still hasn't sent in his letter, despite the fact that I've resent the reminder email. I tried going by his office today, and he wasn't there. I guess I'll email him tomorrow. The due date was Monday!!! Also, I am debating contacting the grad departments...
  3. I'm feeling pretty annoyed. I'm SO CLOSE to being done, everything is submitted on my end, but I have one letter writer who told me he would send it in this weekend, yet still has not done so, and my apps are due tomorrow! I've worked so hard this year to get everything done, and I just hate the fact that this last thing is so out of my control.
  4. I was denied admission to a school's English MA and accepted into their Humanities MA program. I have looked at this program and their course requirements, and it includes a concentration in Literature. What I am worried about is if a Humanities MA will inhibit me from getting into English PhD program later. I am especially worried because my BA is in Liberal Arts with a concentration in Humanities & Social Thought (from a small honors college) rather than the standard English BA, and I wonder if this is what made them think I'm more suited for the Humanities MA over the English. I feel like I am trapped in the "Humanities" bubble without being able to break into the "English" world. Does anyone have experience with getting a Humanities MA rather than an English MA? Or experience with these kinds of "broader" degree programs?
  5. They are deciding on MAs before PhDs? That seems strange...
  6. Besides SMU: Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, UT-Dallas, Arkansas, Emory, UNC-Chapel Hill, and Columbia. Rejected from Vandy, Emory, Arkansas, and UNC; implicit rejection from Columbia and SMU.
  7. Dang, I haven't heard anything. Guess this means another rejection.
  8. Also, did anyone else apply to other schools in the Dallas area?
  9. Has anyone heard from SMU? I see there is one invitation on the results board if anyone wants to claim that. If you haven't heard, but are waiting, feel free to post here too!!
  10. For me too. I thought I wouldn't care because they weren't even close to being my first choice, but since it is my first notification I can't help but think it is a sign of things to come.
