  1. Hi! I'm looking for info on the best graudate international education programs. I have a Master's in French from Middlebury and have studied extensively in France, for over four years. I've also taught for over eight years from K-12 and the University level. I was pursuing my PhD in French before having a baby, but now have decided to pursue my passion of study abroad, esp since tenure-track positons are becoming few and far between for the humanities. I was looking at MIIS in Monterey, but don't want to uproot my family and go broke moving there. Since I'm already in my 30s, it would be too big of a move for me. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good program that also might be available online? I was looking at SIT but not sure if it will be impressive enough on paper. Thanks for your help!
  2. Hello everyone! I am so glad to see that'll there is a place where we can talk about the French PhD programs. Congratulations to everyone who has been accepted! I am very disappointed of the admission decisions that I have received. I had low GRE scores, not much over 300 but didn't have time to take it again. I applied to Duke, Stanford, UNC, Tulane, and LSU. UNC told me that my research interests (music and culture) did not match the faculty interest. Duke would not give me a specific reason why was not accepted, except the usual trite response of 'there were many qualified applicants this year'. Stamford at least explained that my research area was a great fit for the department; however, my GRE scores were not strong enough. Still haven't heard from Tulane but saw where someone was already contacted by phone last week. The administrative assistant in the French department said she did not know about the decisions yet. Did finally get an acceptance from LSU but not sure if it's a good program or not. I really like everyone in the faculty and the fact that they have their own separate French department... Does anyone have any information on the program? Thank you so much for all your help!
  3. I attempted to get info on why I wasn't accepted and didn't get a straight response but they kept emphasizing that my research interests didn't match with the French dept. at Duke. I have been accepted to LSU and waiting om Tulane. Has anyone heard if the LSU program is reputable? I was impressed with their faculty and interdisciplinary research interests. I wanted to apply to thw big names like Yale, Princeton and a few others near me, like Emory. However, I took the gre too late and missed several application deadlines. Does anyone have any info on LSU and Tulane? Would rather get started on the Phd than wait until next year to apply again but definitely want to get a great teaching post afterwards!
