  1. One thing I wasn't coached on enough was the budget portion for my Fulbright application. We now live in a world of sequestration, so when you get to that part be thoughtful in the numbers you put down. I would have certainly been more mindful then, if I had known the sequestration was going to happen. Good luck applicants!! Sincerely, Your elderly friend
  2. You are too kind! Thank you! Good luck to you! I am praying that everything works out for you.
  3. That's awesome! I am so excited for you! Thanks for the blog posts. Update: I am still working with my University in Estonia on my project and seeking other funding sources. Each time I mention the research to academics and political folks they are very interested. I can't stop working just because Fulbright thinks I am too old. Lol!
  4. How was orientation in D.C.? Any stories or news? Living vicariously here.
  5. Congratulations!! Wonderful news! Thank you for letting us know. Good luck on your adventure!
  6. Still hanging around in Alternate land. Pretty sure that I won't get called up to the big leagues. You guys need to let me know how the training in D.C. goes! I am curious to know who meets up and see pictures etc. I am living vicariously here. Lol!!
  7. Woohoo!! That's great! So happy for you!!
  8. Hahaha! It happens no worries! I followed you also! Thanks for the info. I will check it out. Fulbright was new to me last year, so I am not giving up all hope. I hope you get bumped to selected! Thanks again! Which reminds me, I haven't tweeted in a while.
  9. Hmmm...you have an interesting situation. I hope you can find someone. Also, school is out now. Maybe some of these professors are still working through their need to return emails. There are some German ETAs on this board, maybe they can help you find a contact. Good luck!
  10. Yeah, I think the Fulbright program is all geared toward younger applicants. I don't think non-traditional students should give up applying though. I have thought about re-applying just to kind of jab at the system a bit. But, I probably won't. I think alternates should reapply, especially if you are in that under 29 category. Good luck everyone! I would love to hear from you guys! You can find me on Twitter @claglsu
  11. So thrilled for all the newly accepted!! That's wonderful! Good luck to those waiting.
  12. That is really awesome! I don't feel so old. I think age can be an advantage as well, but it just wasn't meant to be for me. I actually saw the embassy staff and then the ambassador when I was in Tallinn. I said hello and told them that Oklahoma was being well represented in Estonia. It's great to see more alternates getting called up!
  13. You are very sweet! I thought my research topic was competent and timely. But, they want young people because time is on their side. My mentor/letter writer (one of them) was right there with you. I am not going to make a fuss. But, I also will not waste my time applying again. Some countries don't care about age and some do. I did coach my advisor to be honest with older students about this possibility. I am so thankful for friends on the board who are so supportive. On the flip side, I am on day 10 of my 18 day trip to Estonia. It's been a blast so far. I am on Saaremaa island today. This is my happy place!
  14. Hey guys! I am off on my mission trip. Good luck alternates!
  15. I was upset yesterday. Not so much today, and I will find a different funding source. My research is valid and timely. So, I will not be sad. I am leaving for Estonia tomorrow. Yay!! So, all will be well with the world again. I wish I had read that little clause in the beginning.
