  1. The schools reopen tonight/tomorrow. After your interview with Schrock and Dinca they confer and make sure you weren't a babbling bafoon. Just keep calm, as they say. From what I understand those interviews that the inorganic people do are merely a formality
  2. Good luck there man. I went to a lecture there by Stephen Buchwald today, coincidentally. The Petit Science Center was pretty new and quite nice.
  3. Well, everyone, it's been a pleasure. Thanks for keeping us all updated, posting your stats, engaging in discussion, offering advice, and letting me know I wasn't the only one freaking out. Good luck to everyone in your future endeavors. I look forward to attending your Nobel Prize acceptance speech!
  4. Wow. Those are tough decisions. I don't envy you right now. Good luck and whatever you do, don't forget to send in an acceptance to somewhere by Tuesday!
  5. Only 3 days left. Anyone still deciding where to go?
  6. I think you may be misunderstanding the purpose of the Fellowship. They are funding you, not the project. In fact, I'm not doing anything related to my proposal and the NSF doesn't care. So, yes, you can apply for next year and you can still win it - assuming you meet the tenure requirements. Whether or not you are doing research, not doing research, is irrelevant. Hope this helps.
  7. Edited: Never mind - Figured it out.
  8. NSF GRFP results will be released at 2 am. Good luck to those who, like me, applied!
  9. I think you have recently become my new favorite person. I'm not even joking. Your admiration and incessant stalking has finally worked. I love you too, babe.
  10. Nice. What'd you think about the program? Anything you liked/disliked? I'm interested in a few. Buchwald is my main target though, pre-visitation.
  11. Nice. See you at visitation in 2 weeks? Who are you hoping to work for?
  12. http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-science-schools/chemistry-rankings So, US News has finally updated the chemistry rankings (first time in a few years!) Thoughts relevant to me: MIT, Berkeley and Caltech are all still #1. MIT is still solely in possession of number 1 for inorganic. So all those rumors of them dropping off haven't been noticed by whatever methodology US News uses. Wisconsin dropped from 7th to 9th. My undergrad institution jumped from 26 to 24! Woohoo! Go Jackets! Edit: Before some douche jumps in and remarks about the inaccuracies of the rankings/methodologies/arcane standards/reputations - I know. You're so wise. Thanks.
