  1. congrats!!! it seems like everyone on this thread is getting acceptances!
  2. That's a good point. Better admins always make life easier. Has anyone considered how they'll have health insurance given that I'm assuming most won't hold a full time job?
  3. Hi everyone!!! I had the interview today and I got accepted on the same day. I want to thank EVERYONE on this forum who shared their interview experience because it was extremely incredibly helpful. I want to help those who have their interview tomorrow and for future applicants so here is my piece of input:) The interview lady was Ms. Gray as well and she was very nice. The questions of "do you have any questions for me? and the writing sample were squeezed into two different parts of the interview..I felt like Ms. Gray was just being nice and trying to give us a break from those questions . 1) Which student are you, 18mo or oyr ? Why did you chose social work and what are you currently doing? 2) What is a population you don't want to work with? and why? (and she did not give our group the scenario question of 'what would you do if you were placed in a field placement with this population?) 3)What is the biggest risk for you in terms of going to graduate school? 4) What was a constructive criticism you received. How did you take it and what did you do? 5) Why hunter? Why the clinical track? 6) Why should I choose you? 7) Questions for me? The writing sample was about a change in food policy where, in order to address obesity and hunger, the policies will promote the production of local, affordable, nutritious food locally, which in turn will create jobs for people. When I studied for these articles, I tried to look up the latest nasw chat or news because i thought those topics would probably be what the writing sample was able..but for those who were wondering like me, my article was dated 2013. Just sharing that in case anyone wondered. GOOD LUCK to everyone tomorrow and to all future readers who have to go through this interview process
  4. Thumbrella you have no idea how much I appreciate this as I am having my interview tomorrow. May I ask, how did you answer questions 3, 4 and 5? 3 and 4 especially sound so similar. I would be so grateful if you get to see this post before tomorrow.
  5. thanks for sharing cunymsw!! It sounds not as nerve-wracking as I thought. I'm glad it went well for you. was your article about homelessness as well?
  6. Thanks so much for sharing Pavlovsdog, this was extremely helpful!! I know you said that everyone spoke about their experience..so in terms of picturing it, I imagine that everyone just goes around and talks about their volunteer and work experience.. my question is does the interviewer ask follow up questions regarding people's experiences? such as asking you to provide a specific situation you encountered in xyz job or asking other details? Thanks:)
  7. Pavlovsdog, thanks for sharing those details!! I really appreciate these insights and i hope you hear back soon! I know they ask questions about your sw experience, why hunter, why social work, minority populations, social identity and such but do you ask you specific questions/details about your experiences, weakness and strengths and questions like "what's a challenge you've faced"?
  8. I agree pretty much with Thumbrella and New York MSW. I would definitely choose Hunter at the end of the day because of the cost. SO I heard back from Hunter and NYU today!!!! Accepted into NYU as of 10/22 at 8:24PM via email (The app was submitted and completed 09/29). And when I checked my Hunter app at 5PM there was Pending Interview (that app was completed 09/23 and submitted 09/19) ! Then at 6:28PM I received an email invitation for an interview. They gave 5 different days/times that I could choose from. The 10/29 one that Cunymsw is going to attend and the date before that were all full, so I chose my date for the first week of November. Cunymsw, it sounds like they just provided you a date without the option for you to choose days? If that's correct it seems maybe that for stronger applicants, they for sure try to interview first.. Anyway there were five different days to choose from...I've heard it's about 10 people? max? So maybe they'll be interviewing 50 ppl in total for the first batch of interviews? I've heard that the people they interview first are their stronger candidates bc of a 3 tier system so I'm hoping we all get in more easily! Don't take my word. This is all guesswork lol. And I wish you the best best of luck cunymsw! I hope everyone else hears back from the rest of the schools soon! Is anyone else who has the interview scheduled or has a pending interview nervous about the writing sample? I am...
  9. Thumbrella, I sure hope with all my heart there'll be more opportunities lol. Have you heard back from the other schools you said you applied to?
  10. And please if anyone has any questions ask away. I'm sure this post will be a great resource for all current and future applicants.
  11. Olayak, you have explained a fantastic point very well. I agreed 100%!! May I ask what you do? I just want to know for planning in my social work career. Pavlovsdog- Welcome to the thread!:) and congrats on your NYU acceptance! I agree with you. I would love to go to Hunter too, but I know they do have an interview process which makes it more difficult to get it. Sorry I don't know much about Columbia though. I applied only to NYU and Hunter. What day did you get accepted into NYU last week? out of curiosity because I have a pending theory now that they send out their acceptances on Fridays..
  12. You have fantastic credentials lol. im sure youre going to be great for the interview. can you let us know when you're pending interview status changes just so we have a sense of the time frame? Thanks!!
  13. Oh my. Congrats to you too! and I really appreciate you adding to this post. Would you mind sharing your credentials?
  14. Hi UMichHopeful93! Out of the list you have, I applied for NYU. I submitted my app 9/29 when their deadline was 10/2 but I believe they've just extended their deadline to 10/30. I know some people have already received acceptances from them already so I'm a little (actually a ton) nervous here. I haven't heard back at all. When did you submit your nyu app? My credentials: BA in psychology 3.8 gpa Two years of volunteer experience and one year as a case worker in a social service agency. Rec letters: one from agency I volunteered with and two from professors. Schools applied to: NYU and hunter, both accelerated programs Concerns: what if they wanted the supervisor recommendation to be from my work supervisor rather than volunteer? my other concern is that maybe I didn't answer the "skills and attributes that make you suited for the profession" and "what you'd like to improve on" questions thoroughly..is that why they aren't getting back to me?! I'm going crazy lol
  15. I heard that hunter interviews on a 3 tier system so congrats! ! you must be on their top tier
